I as everyone was completely floored by jake's passing. i cannot believe we have lost such an unbelievably awesome person. I first met Jake the summer of 2003, and he is defiantely an unforgettable man. By far one of the funniest guys I have ever met. I still steal some of his one-liners on occasion. He was very welcoming to us ssk boys that summer. One of few to be dubbed an honourary ssk boy for life. I just remember gulka making me and reid go to burger king after almost every practice. tossin back a few pilsners with the cake was always a joy. and when i left bc that winter, never forgot the cake, serveral times the next summer me and blair would give jake early morning phone calls cuz we missed the guy so much. i think i even talked to his brother and maybe his mom a couple times. with that said my condolences and prayers go out to the entire gulka family. the legend that is jake "the cake" gulka will live on forever. i love this man. r.i.p. my friend

I first met Jake in the spring of 2003. I didnt really get to know Jake until we went out to play Vic and Gulka rounded up all the out of town guys to go and eat with him at the Pacific buffet on the ferry....god what a wild ride that was. Jake was one of the most humorous, witty and likeable guys i had ever played ball with. I will still never forget Jake coming into the offense's dressing room wearing nothing but a girdle before our 2003 clash with Tri -City....typical classic Gulka!!

Who can forget all the late night/early morning phone calls to Jake that Marc Bartolf aka BARTEZ and myself made....good times, we just wanted to take to our jolly friend..

Jake, i will never forget you and will pray for you and your family, i'll see you on the other side someday my friend, until then....

It honestly has caught me by utter shock to hear the news of Jake's passing! My greatest sympathy and prayers go out to the Gulka family. Also, to the Abbotsford Airforce organization.

My time with Jake was definitely an experience to remember. The summer of 2003 was the first of mine and Jake's with the 'force! My fondest memories of Jake were in practice, Jake lining up on the d-line talking smack as he always did... as all of us on the offence are trying not to cry because we were laughing so hard... because of his classic one line cracks.

The one thing Jake always had was a giant smile on his face and making sure that everyone around him was dawning that same smile. I honestly can't remember how many times you would hear Jake talking of pro wrestling... other then football was one of his passions in life.

The world has lost a special person... and will be sorely missed! Rest In Peace Jake "The Cake" Gulka #57

Jake was truly a great guy. I got to experience the Abbotsford Air Force football team the summer of 2004. Jake was a really funny guy and also a great inspiration to the entire team. My heart and prayers go out to all his family and friends.

I am sorry for your loss of such a great son and brother.

I coached Jake at the midget level in White Rock. I had the privilege of working closely with him. Jake could make you smile when you wanted to be mad. Jake was a leader and a team player. He was always there for you when he was needed.

Jake's memory will live with all of his fellow team mates and coaches. He truly will never be forgotten. He was a young man that has made an impact on my life as well as others.

To me Jake will always be Jake "the snake"

Wow, I can´t express enough in words how shocked and saddened I am to hear about Jake. I only met him once (at the Canadian Bowl in Edmonton when he and some of the guys from the Rams and Airforce came down to see the game) That was one of my first experiences really meeting and talking to players from other teams. (Josh Plamondon and Jon Klyne were also there). It was enjoyable and I remember thinking I would make a point of trying to meet some of the players from other organizations after that. Jake was hilarious when I met him when he was doing (what else lol) typing Jake ¨the Cakisms¨ at the hotel internet cafe. In my half an hour or so talking to him, he seemed like a real nice young man, a real character that any team would love to have on the team.

Any volunteer, coach etc with teams in the CJFL can relate when I say this. We all do this not to ¨give back¨ to football, although that is the end result. We do this because it´s fun as hell. We like the players, and in some cases you touch us more than others to the point where you really love the guy. Whether we think of a player as a son or brother, that bond lasts long past a junior football career.

After meeting Jake, I am sure he had this effetct on some of his comrades in football. My thoughts go to you as much as his birth family. RIP Jake, we´ll all miss you around here.

I had the pleasure of playing with Jake on the South Fraser Rams and had great time whenever I talked to him, cause no matter what mood u were in, he would make you smile. I have alot of fond memories of Jake and will hold on to them forever.
