Thank you Bob for all your hard work on this wonderful website - it is a worthy tribute to those young men who gave so much and yet were so badly disrespected for so many years by our far from worthy politicians. |

I am researching my Great Uncle Sydney Lloyd. Syd servedas an Air Gunner with 97 Squadron & was shot down during the massive raid on Nuremberg on 28.08.1942, aged 21. Syd is buried in the Reichswald Forest Cemetary. I am trying to find any information about his time in the RAF & particularly would like to find out more who his colleagues were who he flew with on that last mission. There were a couple of Canadian's I think might have been on that flight. I will come back to this site & list their names. If anyone has any information on this sortie, or 97 squadron I would be so grateful to them. I am compiling a history on these magnificent young men & happy to share any information I have. |

My uncle was PO William Grover Hurle. His plane came down on its mission to bomb Berlin on 23/24 August 1943. All on board were killed. I am trying any way I can think of to find out if his plane was found by civilians or war personnel during or after the war. My wish is to visit his grave if there is one. |

In 1942 I was in the Air Cadets and went to Camp at Blackpool. We got a ride 4 of us in an Avro Anson and the Pilot was a Belgian Flt Lt sporting a DSO. I later found out he was Sqn Ldr CL Roman DSO DFC. |

My uncle Sgt Bill Akrill was posted missing on 12/13 March 1943. He was with 115Sqd based at East Wretham in Norfolk. I have recently been going through his letters which he wrote home during his time in the RAF and also the letters received by his family after he went missing from friends and colleagues. One was from a friend he had made while stationed at Upper Heyford in Oxfordshire from Oct 1942 to Feb 1943. His name was LAC John James 165987 who was then stationed in Eastbourne and then Bawdsey near Woodbridge. He and Bill were obviously good friends and continued to correspond with my grandmother for some time, hoping to hear good news, which sadly never came. Uncle Bill was a very talented artist and we have a lot of his drawings which are going to be exhibited in our local gallery next year along with other momorabillia. After going through all the ' stuff' I thought it would be really good if we could find John, if he is still around, or any members of his family. Perhaps someone might know of him. |

Researching my family and I have been sent some information regarding a cousin that I didn't even know that I had, he flew with 576 sqdn, and died on Aug 27th 1944, his name and service number were Harold Duncan Murray, 182133, I have since been told that he was never found, I would love to know the type of plane he flew, and where he had been going on his last flight, any information would be nice, Thank you. |
