2136 -BC- Chinese make 1st record of a solar eclipse

4004 -BC- Universe created at 8:00 PM, according to the 1650 pronouncement
of Anglican archbishop James Ussher

0451 - During the Fifth Session of the Council of Chalcedon, the final form
of the Chalcedonian Creed was drafted. It became the Early Church's highest
and most enduring "definition" of the person and work of Jesus Christ.

1721 - Czar Peter the Great becomes "All-Russian Imperator"

1844 - The "Great Disappointment" began when this latest date, set for the
return of Christ by religious leader William Miller, passed without event.
Over 100,000 disillusioned followers returned to their former churches, or
abandoned the Christian faith altogether.

1875 - Sons of American Revolution organizes

1952 - The complete Jewish Torah was published in English for the first time.
A collection of oral and written commentary (dating 200 BC to AD 500) on
the first five books of the Old Testament, the Torah comprises the basic
religious code of Judaism.

1954 - West Germany joins North Atlantic Treaty Organization

1962 - JFK imposes naval blockade on Cuba, beginning missile crisis

1978 - Pope John Paul II installed

4004 BC - According to the timeline worked out by Catholic Archbishop James
Ussher, 73, "the heavens and the earth" were created on this date at 9:00
a.m. (GMT). Ussher's "Chronologies of he Old and New Testaments" was first
published 1650-54.

42 BC - Marcus Junius Brutus, a leading conspirator in the assassination
of Julius Caesar, commits suicide after his defeat at the Battle of Philippi

0787 - Byzantine Empress Irene recovers Iconclastic cult at Nicaea

1668 - Jews of Barbados forbidden to engage in retail trade

1760 - 1st Jewish prayer books printed in US

1943 - 1st Jewish transport out of Rome reaches Birkenau extermination camp

1946 - UN General Assembly 2nd session convenes (1st NYC) (Flushing Meadows)

1947 - NAACP petition on racism, "An Appeal to the World" presented to UN

1973 - UN's revised International Telecommunication Convention adopted

1648 - Treaty of Westphalia ended the Thirty Years' War in Europe and the
Holy roman Empire. The war was mainly a struggle between European Protestantism
and Roman Catholicism as represented by the Hapsburg monarchy and the Holy
Roman Empire. France emerged from the war with the most power, and Germany
was virtually devastated.

1939 - Nazis require wearing of star of David [magen david]

1940 - Protestant churches protest against dismissal of Jewish civil servants

1945 - UN charter comes into effect

1951 - United Nations publishes its 1st postage stamps

1989 - TV evangelist Jim Bakker is sentenced to 45 years in prison and fined
half-a-million dollars for fleecing his flock.

0625 - Boniface V ends his reign as Catholic Pope

1147 - The armies of the Second Crusade (1147-49) were destroyed by the Saracens
at Dorylaeum (in modern Turkey). The Crusaders went on with fruitless campaigns
against Damascus, Syria.

1492 - Christopher Columbus & ship Santa Maria land in Dominican Republic

1917 - In Russia, Bolsheviks led by Vladimir Lenin seizes power

1921 - Franklin Small, 48, and a group of dissatisfied members of the Pentecostal
Assemblies of Canada, obtained a Dominion charter to establish the Apostolic
Church of Pentecost of Canada. In 1953, this group merged with the Evangelical
Churches of Pentecost, whose major congregations are located today in the
Canadian prairie provinces.

1941 - 16,000 Jews massacred in Odessa, Ukraine

1962 - Adlai Stevenson demands USSR and Zorin answer regarding Cuban missile
