I am searching for more information on his time with the NOFU, in particular a list of medals that the men and women would have received during their time overseas. Did all the men receive the same medals? If yes, what were the names of the medals. A count of them and their names would be a great start. Thank you to the Pikes for maintaining this site. Fine bys\' you are!!!

His Name:

William Hood Bradbury

His Hometown:

Comments:

I have had a lovely hour browsing through this site My dad William Bradbury came over to Scotland in 1939 Met my mum in Edzell Scotland in 1942 and married her in 1943 he stayed in Edzell after the war and ran my grandfathers garage he was known as "Big Bill" Sadly dad died in 1980 at age 61
I took my mum up to Ballater a few years ago to look at "The Bygone Years" project and DVD We were totally stunned when a picture of him popped on the screen (we shed a few tears!)
Visited Bay Roberts a few years ago and eventually understood why he loved the west coast of Scotland so much it reminded him of home Still miss him dreadfully and every time I hear a Newfie accent the memories of him come flooding back Sadly many of his compatriots are gone now but in Scotland those who stayed left a lovely lagacy of family

Morley Eveleigh

Where are you from?

Born in Botwood. Living on the opposite side of the globe, the Philippines

How did you find this Web Site?

Came across a link on a site while doing research about my fathers days in the Royal Newfoundland Regiment

Did you, or do you, know someone in the NOFU?

My uncle

His Name:

(Hershey) Baxter Eveleigh

His Hometown:

Botwood

Comments:

Baxter Eveleigh was the most honourable and generous man I've met in my life. In 1995, while on a trip across Nfld., with my father, we stopped in at a town about 120 km from Botwood and inquired, from a man in front of his house, about directions to a local cemetery where some of our ancestors are buried. The man asked what family name we were interested in finding and when we told him Eveleigh, he asked if we were related to Baxter. They had become acquainted through a United Church, Provincial get together. Even in the brief time they talked the man remarked to us about what an outstanding individual Uncle Baxter was.

Shortly after Uncle Baxter's passing, my wife and I had our youngest son. His name is Baxter

Where are you from?

Lochbroom, Scotland

How did you find this Web Site?

I hunted for it!

Did you, or do you, know someone in the NOFU?

Yes; but I was a small boy during the 39-45 War.

His Name:

Stan Pike, and he remained in UK in Ullapool.

His Hometown:

I don't know where Stan came from

Comments:

I am putting together a history of the Lochbroom area(which includes Ullapool) and I want to get as much information as possible about the NOFU and its activities in Lochbroom. I would welcome as much information as possible. I know of two sisters from Ladysmith Street, Ullapool - elder sisters of a girl who was in school with me, Dinah Mackenzie - these sisters both went to Canada to marry the lads they met. Stan Pike remained in Ullapool after the war and married and had family. The forests of Leckmelm and Braemore were worked on by the Unit.
But I also know of a unit in the area at the time of the First world War and immediately after and any information about this would be helpful.

I was born and brought up in the Ullapool area and now live in Inverness where I am a lawyer but I am writing a history of Lochbroom and want it to be as complete as possible. So any assistance from your side of the Atlantic (or this side!) would be welcome.
