I sent Donny some class photos from those years. Mr. Shapiro was in them,as well as some of our teachers.
They have not been posted yet.
I remember the assemblies always started with a Hymn, the music room on the top floor where we were taught music appreciation.
Do you remember Fr. Fiore from Loreto? He was the young priest who lost two brothers in a tragic drowning while he was at Loreto. He was also the Moderator of the Cadets. ( He is the priest in the first row of the picture posted on the sight of the Cadets.
I sent a copy of his prayer card - he died at a very young age from complications of his epilepsy.
I also attended PS l55, from around l952 to l957, I do remember Mr.shapiro as our principal.I lived right a cross the street from the school,,,I want to JHS 73 after l55...
MARGARET,DID YOU LIVE ON HERKIMER ST.BETWEEN PLEASANT PL AND GUNTHER.DID YOU KNOW THAT THE TOP FLOOR WAS ORIGINALLY USE A A TYPE OF BOSE SCHOOL THAT TAUGHT HAIR CUTTING FOR GIRLS.
Hi Margaret, Is this the Margaret who's brother was friends with Gerard? Do you still live in RH? I am Gerard's sister Carol. If it is you, how are things going?
HI MARGARET,THE WAY I HEARD IT WAS THAT CHARLIE(NICK, HIS REAL NAME) USED TO CARRY A SILVER METAL POT AROUND HE NEIGHBORHOOD WHICH CONTAINED SOUP,SO THE NAME SOUP SOUNDS LIKE ZOOP GOT HIS NAME.
Charlie "Zoop" it was! He used to fish the subway grates with peanut butter on a string. If you called him Charlie Zoop you better run and his reply was about your mother. I was friends with Silvio Petrone by the park. Anybody remember "Skippy" sad character.
Hi, he also used vaseline,or bubble gum,his full name was charles Pizzichelo..IM sure thats the wrong spelling, but he lived with his mother and sisterDora on Fulton street. On top of his brother, was that skip? I was friends with charlies neice angelina,,I hated to have to go into the hall to call for her to come out play, the hall was always dark and scary,,but zoop was a nice guy.harmless...
Skipper Varrichio lived in the house next door to me on Powell St. near Anthony Gurino down the block from the nun's convent. His father's store was up the block on ENY Ave. He was friends with my cousin Matthew Senatore, who also lived in the apartment building on 56 Powell St . He was also friends with Gerard Vignola and he told me that both of them had passed away.
"skippy" was a nickname. Do remember a guy that used to "skip" down the street and touch the street signs? He also used to show up in church and spit at he Saints and jump around. That's why i said it was sad.He was in his 40's I think.
I am Gerard's sister. He passed away in 1991. I knew the this skippy was not Skipper Varrichio. You really did get it right. Skipper also passed away.
Most of that crew are gone. Mikey Contello, Skipper, Gerard, Gasper, etc.
Dear Genevieve I was one of the wild bunch from OLL along with Gerard, Matthew and Skipper along with a few others. We had a reunion many years ago of our class of 1960 it was great. If you can please forward my e-mail address to your cousin Matthew I would appreciate it very much.
P.S. When I was at OLL it was Our Lady of Loretto.
Thank You
Michael Scheppa
