The boy who was us
In those first broadcast fields of colour,
Thin in the middle of fiveteen summers
In that England that once existed
Of best times before the troubles started.
Before darker truths entered
We had touch wood effect televisions,
Our teen age innocence full of telling bones.

We all walked down with him
To the edge of the calling lake
To watch the magic slowly fade
In the guessing game of childhood's end,
Where he will not come back again.
Back again someday
The echoing yearning memory
Never to forget for some of us took a shining.

We all watched in the Spring
Of that turning decade that is gone
And unknown just as if a dark age
From now where nothing works,
For time is a trickery lantern that hurts,
But the children we were then live on
If we remember believing is being that summer again,
Brothers and sisters of magic with him.
