HMS Bulwark calls in at Portland Port
A Navy warship which recently underwent a £32m upgrade called in at Portland Port.
HMS Bulwark, an amphibious assault ship commissioned in 2005, sailed from Plymouth earlier this month to conduct sea trials.
It arrived at the port on Saturday and was due to leave yesterday.
The Royal Navy said Bulwark would spend the next few weeks off the south coast for crew and performance training before returning to duty as an operational warship.
The eight-month refit included a new night vision capability for the ship’s aircraft and the ability to operate two heavy lift Chinook helicopters simultaneously from the flight deck.
The ship is the seventh to carry the name Bulwark.
