Prize Money..

Just curious as to how much fighters earn for competing? i think i read on the site that fighters can earn around $400 AUD but what is someone if anything at all likely to earn after a few fights?

...just curious
thanks!

Certianly nowhere near that when first starting out.

Re: Prize Money..

Here in Phuket boxers earn between 3,000 and 6,000 Baht for a fight, depending on your level and how many times you have fought in that stadium. The main fight, for example, can make up to 10,000 Baht per boxer.
Most students who come to fight don't do it for the money certainly, as it's very little, but for the experience, to improve their fighting skills.

Re: Prize Money..

if you had 1-3 fights at bangla or patong then they pay you 5000-6000bath then the gym takes % around 1000-3000bath from that..

but now in low season i heard its goin down in salary..

Re: Prize Money..

The gym keeps a bit of the prize money to cover expenses like hand wraps, oil liniment, and the trainers who come to work the corner. Trainers' salaries don't cover the work they do in the stadiums for the fights so Tuk gives them tips, from the prize money. We try to be fair. If a student fights really well he/she can make more.

But sometimes students just want to make some money and they don't try hard in the ring. This makes Tuk angry and he sometimes keeps the money, to show them how he feels. Students who do this won't be asked to fight again, as it looks bad for the gym. You have to remember, our reputation is on the line.

still he shouldent take all money, its not he stepping in the ring and fighting... wrong wrong
even he the student get a black out or get afraid of fighting...

bad bad..

Re: Prize Money..

It's only happened twice and it was to teach the boxers a lesson. These boxers had fought before but this time they just didn't try at all and after 30 seconds in the ring just stopped boxing... not from fear.
You have to keep in mind that Tuk and all his trainers learned Muay Thai in a stricter environment than what our guests experience. Back when he was fighting in Bangkok his teachers would hit him and scold him for the smallest things. If he didn't try hard in a fight, he would have been kicked out of the gym. So when someone asks to fight it's because he/she really wants to do it. If not, then don't ask to fight. Tuk and all his trainers support the students who try hard, win or lose. But if you get in the ring full of fear, that's when they don't like it. It's the Thai boxer way of thinking I guess.

Re: Prize Money..

Keeping all of a fighters money, even if it happened twice is BS.

"They fought with fear" but they still "fought".

What if all the Tuk-Tuk drivers fighting guests at the gym didn't get paid when they "fought"?

Maybe sparring before a fight is the right answer, so you know the students are ready to fight.

How much sparring will we do at Rawai?
