I've been hunting for a record I heard on a Scranton PA station a few years back. Apparently Count Basie recorded Green Onions (as in Booker T & the MG's), back in 1941. The DJ said the records were only distributed to Radio Stations back then, and that we were listening to a very rare recording. Does anyone know where this version can be heard?

Count Basie recorded Green Onions in 1967, both as a single and as part of the album "Basie's in the Bag". It can also be found on the CD (out of print, unfortunately) Count Basie's Pop Classics. I'm currently looking for a copy myself.
