Church Ousts Lesbian Minister

This past Thursday, self-professed lesbian 'minister' Irene Elizabeth Stroud
was found guilty (12-1) by a 13 member church court of breaking Methodist
church law by being openly homosexual. Jurors then voted 7-6 to defrock Stroud.
The judgment, decided in the church's third-ever public trial, stated that
Stroud had violated the church's Book of Discipline by being homosexual and
a minister. Stroud commented: "I did not go into this trial expecting to
win. I went into it knowing it would be a painful moment in the life of the
United Methodist Church." Under the judgment, Stroud is allowed to do lay-work
but not function in any official capacity. Stroud has 30 days to appeal the
conviction. The last time the 8.3 million-member denomination convicted an
openly gay cleric was in 1987, when a New Hampshire church court defrocked
the Rev. Rose Mary Denman.

Homosexuality is declared a sin in scripture and not only is incompatible
with being a minister but anyone who declares themselves a Christian and
practices homosexuality should be addressed, in love, by Matthew 18 protocol;
even to the point of being put out of the church unless/until repentance
is evident. [homosexuality see Lev 18:22; Gen 19:5; Deut 23:17; Judges 19:22;

UCC Hopes to Sway Stray Gays

The United Church of Christ has launched a national TV advertising program
stating that the United Church of Christ seeks to welcome all people, regardless
of ability, age, race, economic circumstance or sexual orientation. The debut
30-second commercial features two black-shirted muscle-bound "bouncers" standing
guard outside a church building and selecting which persons are permitted
to attend services. First two gay white men approach holding hands and the
one bouncer halts them saying, "No, step aside please." Written text appears
on the screen: "Jesus didn't turn people away. Neither do we." Then scene
changes to several indivuals including two, obviously gay, women embracing
while a United Church of Christ narrator then proclaims: "No matter who you
are, or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here."

The UCC's website says that the ad 'has been accepted and will air on a mix
of broadcast and cable networks, including ABC Family, AMC, BET, Discovery,
Fox, Hallmark, History, Nick@Nite, TBS, TNT, Travel and TV Land. .... On
the eve before the campaign's launch, negotiations with CBS and NBC broke
down, after the networks deemed the UCC's all-inclusive message as "too
controversial."' The 1.3 million-member UCC, whose membership has declined
23 percent in 15 years, began the $1.7 million, 3 1/2-week advertising campaign
hoping to grow the church with shunned people from other denominations.

Cheesy Version Mary

Another Virgin Mary sighting. eBay is an online auction house where one can
buy almost anything. This story proves it. Diana Duyser of Florida sold a
ten year old grilled cheese sandwich for $28,000! The 52 yr old Duyser said
she took a bite from the sandwich 10 years ago, placed it down, and saw a
face staring back at her from the sandwich. She believes the face is that
of the Virgin Mary. She put the sandwich in a clear plastic box with cotton
balls and kept it on her night stand.

Duyser's eBay ad said: "You are viewing an extroidinary[sp] out of this world
item!! I made this sandwich 10 years ago, when I took a bite out of it, I
saw a face looking up at me, It was Virgin Mary starring back at me, I was
in total shock, I would like to point out there is no mold or disingration,
The item has not been preserved or anything, It has been keep in a plastic
case, not a special one that seals out air or potiental mold or bacteria,
it is like a miracle, It has just preserved itself which in itself I consider
a miracle, people ask me if I have had blessings since she has been in my
home, I do feel I have, I have won $70,000 (total) on different occasions
at the casino near by my house, I can show the recipts to the high bidder
if they are interested, I would like all people to know that I do believe
that this is the Virgin Mary Mother Of God, That is my solem belief, but
you are free to believe that she is whomever you like, I am not scamming
anyone, I would like all potinetal bidders to know that this has gained alot
of attention from media personell around the country, On Tuesday November
16, 2004 the Miami Herald will feature a story in thier paper on this phenomon,
Also Today which is November 15, 2004 The story of The Virgin Mary In The
Grilled Cheese will be aired on Channel 4 News here in South Florida, The
story has been told nationwide on radio stations ect."

Some bogus offers came in as high as 99 million dollars but at the urging
of eBay officials Duyser checked all high bids to make sure they were legitimate.
The online casino GoldenPalace.com had the winning bid of 28,000 dollars.
Other eBay sellers began to offer grilled cheese sandwiches with other images
on them including smiley faces and Elvis. Golden Casino dot Com has pictures,
t-shirts and even a grilled cheese sandwich song on their site. Visitors
can even upload their own image into a virtual grilled cheese sandwich. The
GoldenPalace.com Grilled Cheese Sandwich Hall of Fame of uploaded images
includes, among others: Herman Munster, George Bush, Osama Bin Laden, and
Richard Nixon

SBC Snubs CCT

"Christian Churches Together in the USA" or CCT includes mainline Protestants,
Orthodox Christians, Roman Catholics, and even the now-apostate Worldwide
Church of God. In a wise decision, the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC),
the nation's largest Evangelical denomination, said "it would not be wise"
to join the new religious alliance. According to Agape Press, Dr. Richard
Land, president of the SBC's Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission said,
"When you start coming together in any kind of organizational way, and [that
organization] says it's a forum for participation so we can pray together,
grow in our understanding together, and witness together our faith - well,
you know, the reason we have different denominations is we have different
understandings of 'our faith' is. And if you're involved in these kinds of
things organizationally, you can end up giving people a false impression
that you have the same faith."

AgapePress said that Land indicated that "such alliances create confusion"
that the SBC works with people of differing faiths and "people of good will"
on issues of common concern, such as abortion, the defeat of same-sex marriage,
and pornography. "But when it comes to faith issues, when it comes to theology
and doctrine," he says, "we feel it's best to make it very clear where we
stand - and to not stand in organic relationship with others that would give
people the idea that we have similar or the same faith."

The National Council of Churches [NCC] calls the ecumenical alliance "the
most inclusive Christian organization ever" and Bob Edgar, general secretary
of the NCC, describes the group as "a new forum for leaders of the nation's
churches to discuss topics of common interest and grow in their relationships
with one another."

NJ School's Official Religious Holidays
      [story info sent by Brian
Hoeck]

Church of God and so-called Jewish Feasts acknowledged by the New Jersey
State School Board? You heard it right! The NJ State Board of Eductaion's
website says: "According to N.J.S.A. 18A:36 14 through 16 and N.J.A.C. 6:3-9,
regarding pupil absence from school because of religious holidays, the
Commissioner of Education, with the approval of the State Board of Education,
is charged with the responsibility of prescribing such rules and regulations
as may be necessary to carry out the purpose of the law."

"The law provides that: Any pupil absent from school because of a religious
holiday may not be deprived of any award or of eligibility or opportunity
to compete for any award because of such absence. Pupils who miss a test
or examination because of absence on a religious holiday, must be given the
right to take an alternate test or examination. To be entitled to the privileges
set forth above, the pupil must present a written excuse signed by a parent
or person standing in place of a parent. Any absence because of a religious
holiday must be recorded in the school register or in any group or class
attendance record as an excused absence. Such absence must NOT be recorded
on any transcript or application or employment form or on any similar form."

"The Commissioner, with the approval of the State Board of Education, is
required a) To prescribe such rules and regulations as may be necessary
to carry out the purposes of this act. (b) To prepare a list of religious
holidays on which it shall be mandatory to excuse a pupil. The list, however,
is to be a minimum list. Boards of education, at their discretion, may add
other days to the list for the schools of their districts."

"The district board of education has the right to add any bona fide religious
holiday to the list for its own schools. Some parents might ask for an excused
absence for their child on every day listed as a religious holiday for members
of their faith, while others might request an excuse for only part or some
of the days listed. Please note that there are times when the religious holidays
of more than one faith will fall on the same day."

Here is the official list of the NJ State Board of Education adopted Religious
Holidays for the 2004-05 School Year.

Pope Urges Rediscovery of Sunday

As the liturgical preparatory period for Christmas rolled along, the Roman
Catholic Pontiff John Paul II called for "the rediscovery ... of the meaning
of Sunday." The Pope's daily address in St. Peter's Square Wednesday noted
it was the first Sunday of Advent on, according to Zenit news, which "we
will contemplate with particular fervor the face of Christ present in the
Eucharist." [I am surprised he didn't bid on the face of Mary present in
the grilled cheese sandwich on eBay! Seriously, the Pope has called this
year "The Year of The Eucharist"]

The Pope said the 24th Eucharistic Congress will take place in Bari, Italy
from May 21-29 and its main theme will be: "Without Sunday, We Cannot Live"
which "gives even greater prominence to the Year of the Eucharist." The leader
of the world's Roman Catholics said "I invite the ecclesial community of
Italy to prepare itself with great care for this spiritual event, to "rediscover
with new intensity the meaning of Sunday: its 'mystery,' its celebration,
its significance for Christian and human life"

The Marian Pope closed the message saying, "May Mary Most Holy, "Eucharistic
Woman" and Virgin of Advent, help us to receive with joy the Christ who comes,
and to celebrate worthily the sacramental presence of the Eucharistic mystery."

Notable Sabbath Quotes

"Rites and ceremonies, of which neither Paul nor Peter ever heard, crept
silently into use, and then claimed the rank of divine institutions. Officers
for whom the primitive disciples could have found no place, and titles which
to them would have been altogether unintelligible, began to challenge attention,
and to be named apostolic." --William D. Killen, The Ancient Church, preface,
p. xvi [Killen (1806-1902) was a Protestant church history professor in Belfast,
Ireland].

"The Church made a sacred day of Sunday . . . largely because it was the
weekly festival of the sun;--for it was a definite Christian policy to take
over the pagan festivals endeared to the people by tradition, and to give
them a Christian significance."--Arthur Weigall, The Paganism in Our
Christianity, 1928, p. 145 [Dr. A. E. Weigall (1880-1937) was a high-ranking
British Egyptologist in the Egyptian Government].

"Remains of the struggle [between Christianity and Mithraism] are found in
two institutions adopted from its rival by Christianity in the fourth century,
the two Mithraic sacred days: December 25th, dies natalis solis [birthday
of the sun], as the birthday of Jesus,--and Sunday, 'the venerable day of
the Sun,' as Constantine called it in his [Sunday law] edict of 321."--Walter
Woodburn Hyde, Paganism to Christianity in the Roman Empire, p. 60. [Hyde
(1870- ?) was an American ancient history professor and writer].

"Is it not strange that Sunday is almost universally observed when the Sacred
Writings do not indorse it? Satan, the great counterfeiter, worked through
the 'mystery of iniquity' to introduce a counterfeit Sabbath to take the
place of the true Sabbath of God. Sunday stands side by side with Ash Wednesday,
Palm Sunday, Holy (or Maundy) Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Whitsun
day, Corpus Christi, Assumption Day, All Souls' Day, Christmas Day, and a
host of other ecclesiastical feast days too numerous to mention. This array
of Roman catholic feasts and fast days are all man made. None of them bears
the divine credentials of the Author of the Inspired Word."--M. E. Walsh.
