Big Red Brother

A Reuters story reported that China plans to place over 100 satellites into
orbit before 2020 to watch every corner of the country. State-run China Central
Television quoted a government official as saying: A "large surveying network"
would be set up to monitor water reserves, forests, farmland, city construction
and "various activities of society." Shao Liqin, an official with the Ministry
of Science and Technology, added: "The aim is that, at any time and any place,
we can obtain necessary data on any event through watching the Earth from
space."

Religion: Instrument of Intolerance?

On Thursday, Pope John Paul II received Caucasus Muslim, Orthodox Christian
and Jewish religious leaders from Azerbaijan. The religious visitors came
under the auspices of returning the favor of a visit paid by the Pope in
2002. John Paul II greeted his guests in Russian saying, "May your visit
to the Pope of Rome be a symbol for the world, namely, may it show that tolerance
is possible, and is a value of civilization, which posits the premises for
a fuller and more solidaristic human, civil and social development." He told
them: "No one has the right to present or use religions as instrument of
intolerance, as a means of aggression, violence or death." JPII continued,
"On the contrary, their reciprocal friendship and esteem, if supported also
by the government leaders' commitment to tolerance, constitutes a rich resource
of authentic progress and peace. .... Together -- Muslims, Jews, Christians
-- we wish to address in the name of God and of civilization an appeal to
humanity to halt murderous violence and undertake the path of love and justice
for all." In a later statement a Vatican spokesman said that "during the
audience the religious leaders confirmed to the Pope their constant commitment
to collaborate with peace and to promote peaceful coexistence among the different
religions."

Peru Ado

An AFP brief from Lima Peru reported that that country's constitutional court
declared that a law prohibiting gay-sex in the military was unconstitutional
and "completely discriminatory". The court has thusly granted gays in the
military the freedom to have sex legally. Gays in the Peruvian armed forces
had been subject to expulsion or prison sentences if they engaged in homosexual
relations within or outside their barracks.

Romans 1:22-32 Professing themselves to be wise, they
became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image
made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping
things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts
of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who
changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature
more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God
gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural
use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving
the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men
with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that
recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to
retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to
do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness,
fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder,
debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful,
proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without
understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable,
unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such
things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them
that do them.

EU Pig-Out

Europeans have been told not to worry - their should be enough lard to go
around for [pagan] Christmas season pies. According to AP sources, EU
supermarkets are warning that supplies of the rendered pig-fat shortening
are running low due to "surging demand from pork-loving new members of the
European Union." Pork bought outside of the confines of the EU have tarriffs
added to them so the new EU countries have opted to buy EU pork for their
"sausages, salamis, and pie crusts."

Devilish Ad

Pfizer Inc., maker of Viagra, has been ordered by the FDA to pull certain
TV ads for the product that fail to indicate the what the proper legal use
of the drug is and known risks associated with the product. The ads, termed
by Associated Press as "cheeky," portray a middle-aged couple looking in
the window of a lingerie store. The ad says "Remember that guy who used to
be called 'Wild Thing? ... The guy who wanted to spend the entire honeymoon
indoors?'' As the commercial proceeds, blue-colored horns come up out of
the man's head and the words "He's back" are written on his forehead. The
two horns then morph into the letter "V" of Viagra. Pfizer's Viagra Web site
has a headline "Get back to mischief" and shows a man with the blue horns.
The drug, used for treatment of erectile dysfunction, carries a host of warnings
and undesireable side-effects.

Food and Drug Administration regulatory review officer, Christine Hemler
Smith, informed Pfizer in a letter posted on the FDA's Web site: "The TV
ads omit the indication for the drug (namely, erectile dysfunction ) and
fail to provide information relating to the major side effects and
contraindications of the drug, as required." Smith continued, "The TV ads
claim that Viagra will provide a return to a previous level of sexual desire
and activity. ... FDA is not aware of substantial evidence or substantial
clinical experience demonstrating this benefit for patients who take Viagra."

Pfizer made $1.1 billion in sales to American men last year alone.

Notable Quotes & Quotable Notes

"From the days of Spartacus-Weishaupt to those of Karl Marx, down to Trotsky
(Russia), Bela Kun (Hungary), Rosa Luxemburg (Germany) and Emma Goldman (USA),
this world-wide conspiracy [communism] for the overthrow of
civilization and for the reconstruction of society on the basis of arrested
development, of envious malevolence, and impossible equality, has been steadily
growing.
It played . . . a definitely recognizable part in the tragedy
of the French Revolution. It has been the mainspring of every subversive
movement, during the Nineteenth Century; and now, at last, this band of
extraordinary personalities from the underworld of the great cities of Europe
and America have gripped the Russian people by the hair of their heads and
have become practically the undisputed masters of that enormous empire."
- (ILLUSTRATED SUNDAY HERALD, February 8, 1920, quoting Winston Churchill
about the Bolsheviks in Russia)

"Socialism was originated by Jews[Judaism]; and today Jews play a
leading role in its spread and interpretation.
" - ( Martin A. Meyer,
Jew and Non-Jew pamphlet published by the Union of American Hebrew
Congregations.)

"Certainly we find a strong Jewish participation throughout the socialist
movement which, from its inception up to the present day, has been largely
dominated
by Jewish influence" - (Jewish Contributions to Civilizations
by Joseph Jacobs published by The Jewish Publication Society of America.)

"Jews have been prominently identified with the modern Socialist movement
from its very inception
. ...The Socialist theory was regarded as an
application of the principles of democracy to the industrial organization
of society ... " - ( The Jewish Encyclopedia - 1905; under the heading
'Socialism.')

"If the final authority for the atheistic communist conspiracy could be
unmasked, it would be Satan."
- (The late Dr. Bella V. Dodd who had been
an active member of the Communist Party, U.S.A., (CPUSA) since college and
by the mid-'40s had become a member of the party's inner circle leadership.
However, by 1950 she left the party and embraced Christianity.)

Giving Thanks in Difficulties

“You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good.” --Joseph to his brothers,
who had sold him into slavery.  (Genesis 50:20)

Count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing
of your faith produces patience. -- James 1:2

We would be right in saying that a life of slavery punctuated by stays in
prison would hardly bring forth songs of thankfulness.  It surely did
not in Joseph’s case.

Joseph was the eleventh of twelve sons, and out of jealousy the ten older
boys sold him to a passing caravan on its way to Egypt, where Joseph spent
years separated from his family in conditions ranging from slave to
dungeon-dweller. We can imagine a thoroughly desiccated Joseph languishing
in prison or suffering the indignities of involuntary solitude and wondering
why he, a godly man, should suffer so.

But man does not see as God sees.  For God had a purpose for Joseph
being where he was even though it was not evident for many years.
Joseph’s presence in Egypt, and his subsequent success there, paved the way
for his family’s physical salvation when a time of famine came. The respect
Joseph had won among the Egyptians allowed his family to find haven in Goshen
where there was still food when elsewhere there was none.  Hence
Joseph’s words, “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good.”

We’re told little about Joseph’s emotions as he took the long journey from
Canaan to the right hand of Pharoah.  We do know that God was with him,
and we can presume, if he had any semblance of humanity, that he faced severe
bouts of discouragement.  But because of his brilliance, character,
and blessings of God he persevered and became a blessing to all those around
him.  And a bad situation became cause for praise.

Imagine yourself as Paul the Apostle, thrown in prison for doing his God-ordained
job.  Then imagine yourself seeing these circumstances as an
opportunity.  To Paul, the prison guards were a captive audience.
“But I want you to know, brethren, that things which happened to me have
actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel, so that it has become
evident to the whole palace guard and to all the rest that my chains are
in Christ.” (Philippians 1:12-13).

That old saw about lemons into lemonade surely applied to Paul.  Being
chained to two Roman guards was an opportunity to win them for Christ!
And once they were converted, he would be given two new guards to work on!
“Rejoice, I say, always,” he proclaimed from his cell.  “Again I will
say, rejoice!” (4:4)

It is customary around the Thanksgiving holiday to thank God for the blessings
he has given us, and indeed we should.  But giving thanks and praise
for the trials of life is sometimes beyond us, for we do not see as God
sees.  But we can take comfort in knowing that see us he does, and all
that happens will be to his glory, and for that we can give special thanks.

TWISTED SCRIPTURE - A Bible Version Comparison

Something is missing from several of the new age bible versions. This issue
we examine Matthew 20:16.

  • Texus Receptus (Original Greek) Matthew
20:16 outwV esontai oi escatoi prwtoi kai oi prwtoi escatoi
polloi gar eisin klhtoi oligoi de eklektoi

  • KJV w/Strong's numbers: Matthew 20:16
So the last shall be first
    , and the first last
    : for many be called
    , but few chosen .

  • King James Version: Matthew 20:16 So
the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few
    chosen.

  • WyCliffe's Version: Matthew 20:16 So
the laste schulen be the firste, and the firste the laste; `for many ben
    clepid, but fewe ben chosun.

  • Tyndale's Version: Matthew 20:16 Soo
the laste shalbe fyrste and the fyrste shalbe laste. For many are called
    and feawe be chosen.

  • KJV2000 - Matthew 20:16 So the last shall
be first, and the first last: for many are called, but few chosen.

  • American Standard Version: Matthew 20:16
So the last shall be first, and the first last.

  • The American Standard Version: Matthew
20:16 So the last shall be first, and the first last

  • The New Living Translation: Matthew 20:16
"And so it is, that many who are first now will be last then; and those who
are last now will be first then."

  • The Complete Jewish Bible: Matthew 20:16
"Thus the last ones will be first and the first last."

  • The Bible in Basic English: Matthew 20:16
So the last will be first, and the first last.

  • New Century Version: Matthew 20:16 "So
those who have the last place now will have the first place in the future,
and those who have the first place now will have the last place in the future."

  • New International Version: Matthew 20:16
"So the last will be first, and the first will be last."

So we can plainly see that many of the New Age versions omit the phrase "For
many are called but few are chosen." Jesus' words are not so easily displaced
or erased, as by the spirit, the phrase is repeated in Matthew 22:14 thus
preserving the ideology behind the phrase.

Revelation 17:14 These shall make war with the Lamb,
and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings:
and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and
faithful.

"God gave you the gift of 86,400 seconds today. Have you used one to say
thank you?"
~ William A. Ward

While the secular world offers but one day annually for thanking the Creator
and Great Sustainer - A Christian should often offer the praises of his/her
lips. We share the following scriptures with you and offer our voice with
yours in thankfulness to God for all He provides - (even the sometimes painful
pruning of the vine to continue proper growth).

"In everything give thanks."
(IThessalonians 5:1

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer
and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known
to God."
(Philippians 4:6)

"...Be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another
in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your
heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father
in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ
...."
(Ephesians 5:18-20)
