War on Extremism

An AP story that recently ran in Singapore titled "Rumsfeld Fears Losing
War on Extremism" and we incude a couple excerpts here: "The United States
and its allies are winning some battles in the terrorism war but may be losing
the broader struggle against Islamic extremism that is terrorism's source,
Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said Saturday. The troubling unknown,
he said, is whether the extremists - whom he termed "zealots and despots"
bent on destroying the global system of nation-states - are turning out newly
trained terrorists faster than the United States can capture or kill them.
"It's quite clear to me that we do not have a coherent approach to this,"
Rumsfeld said at an international security conference. ... Rumsfeld also
said that despite some successes in capturing al-Qaida figures in Asia and
foiling some plots, the terrorists will strike again. "Let there be no doubt,
more is to come," he said."

The comments by Rumsfeld could, in one way, be construed to say that if you
are a religious fundamentalist of any faith that does not believe in the
emerging global order that you may fit under the label of 'terrorist.' It
is true that most radical muslims will never willingly submit to a One World
Government and religion unless they are the leaders. It is also true that
the Islamic religion is based in the often violent domination of non-muslims.
Could this be why they are the 'first' target in the movement to unite the
nations of the world? Which "extremist" group will be next? One thing seems
certain ... the powers that be are sure that this "war on extremism" will
escalate.

Tennessee Famine of The Word

In Rhea County,Tennessee, home of the "Scopes Monkey Trial which promulgated
Darwinism," a famine of the Word has just occurred. Public schools that have
taught a half hour bible class for the past 50 years have been ordered to
cease and desist. An Apage Press article said that a 'federal three-judge
panel of the Sixth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati upheld a February
2002 ruling by U.S. District Judge R. Allan Edgar of Chattanooga. Edgar ruled
that the "Bible Education Ministry Program" violated the First Amendment's
Establishment Clause, which allegedly calls for separation of Church and
State. Rhea County School superintendent Sue Porter says school board members
will likely discuss whether to appeal Monday's decision at their Thursday
night meeting. The 30-minute Bible classes were held weekly for about 800
students in kindergarten through fifth grade at the county's three elementary
schools. Parental consent was not required, but students were allowed to
participate in alternative activities if they objected to the classes. A
couple with two children attending the schools sued over the classes. A branch
of the Wisconsin-based Freedom from Religion Foundation was also a plaintiff
in the Bible class case.'

Unbelieving Reverend At It Again

Evangelical Lutheran Church minister "Rev." Thorkild Grosboell, pastor of
Taarbaek, Denmark allegedly said in a recent sermon:"God had abdicated in
favor of his son, hence in our favor. Therefore there is no longer a heavenly
guarantee or an interfering might, there is only the godly kingdom (on earth)
that is achieved by us and between us. So if it fails, there is nothing.''
The sermonary comment has gotten the clergyman suspended from his duties
for the second time in two years. Grosboell claimed last year "there is no
heavenly God, there is no eternal life, there is no resurrection" and was
supended for a time until he retracted and apologized for the comments. In
Denmark, the Evangelical Lutheran Church is run by the government. Helsingoer
Bishop Lise-Lotte Rebel suspended Grosboell and asked the government to consider
terminating the state-employed pastor.

Notable Quotes & Quotable Notes

"There are many that never watch. They never watch
against sin; they never watch against the temptations of the enemy; they
do not watch against themselves, nor against “the lusts of the flesh, the
lusts of the eye, and the pride of life.” They do not watch for opportunities
to do good, they do not watch for opportunities to instruct the ignorant,
to confirm the weak, to comfort the afflicted, to succor them that are in
need; they do not watch for opportunities of glorifying Jesus, or for times
of communion [fellowship], they do not watch for the promises; they do not
watch for answers to their prayers; they do not watch for the second coming
of our Lord Jesus. These are the refuse of the world: they watch not, because
they are asleep."
~"Awake, Awake" sermon by C.H. Spurgeon, November
15, 1857 - Text 1 Thess 5:6

Mt 24:42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour
your Lord doth come. 43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had
known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would
not have suffered his house to be broken up. 44 Therefore be ye also ready:
for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. 45 Who then is
a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household,
to give them meat in due season? 46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord
when he cometh shall find so doing. 47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall
make him ruler over all his goods. 48 But and if that evil servant shall
say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; 49 And shall begin to smite
his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; 50 The lord of
that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour
that he is not aware of, 51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his
portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Empty Calories
[excerpted from a Sabbatarian Message Board
posting]

A report by Dr Christopher Williams, a researcher with the Global Environmental
Change Programme, says that modified high-yield crops are nutrient deficient
causing learning dysfunction in the people who eat them. The report says
that one quarter of the world' population suffers from what Williams calls
"Green Revolution iron deficiency." The posted article said: 'The study concludes
that a deadly combination of soil erosion, pollution and inadequate diet
is affecting the intelligence of millions of people, with effects ranging
from severe intellectual disabilities to "sub-clinical decline" in whole
populations. The report says that the new crops, unlike their predecessors,
fail to take up minerals such as iron and zinc from the soil. So even as
people consumed more calories, their intake of these key "micronutrients"
fell. "High-yielding Green Revolution crops were introduced in poorer countries
to overcome famine," the report says. "But these are now blamed for causing
intellectual deficits, because they do not take up essential micronutrients."
The greatest drops in the intake of iron took place in South and South East
Asia, the very areas where the Green Revolution was most successful.

ARE YOU A LEGALIST?

Is God’s law for Christians? Despite what you have been taught, it is.

People have asked if I am a legalist. If legalism means keeping the law,
then yes, I am – and so are you.

Most of us keep the law every day: we generally drive within the speed limit,
and on the proper side of the road; if we buy a piece of property we want
a lawyer to make sure everything is done right; and if we’re charged, rightfully
or wrongfully, with a criminal offence, we want the best legal eagle in the
land to plead our case.

Of course, when people ask if I am a legalist, they’re really suggesting
my observance of God’s law makes me a legalist. In their estimation, for
me to observe God’s law makes me accursed: anathema. But why?

I believe it begins with a lack of understanding God’s law, what it is, what
it isn’t, and what it’s for.

So what isn’t God’s law? It’s not a set of thou shalt nots to make life miserable
for God’s people, but an expression of God’s love to spare us the misery
of living without rules for guidance.

When an interviewer asked several people, “What do you think of the ten
commandments,” one woman answered, "I think God loved us an awful lot to
give them to us, to protect us from ourselves."

Some readers tell me God’s law is a burden. How do they know if they
haven’t tried living by it?

The pharisaic law was a burden. Jesus said, “The pharisees lay heavy and
grievous burdens on men’s shoulders… (Matthew 23:4).” But the pharisaic law
was not God’s law. It was man’s misguided interpretation of God’s law, and
that’s what made it a burden.

On the other hand Jesus encourages mankind to be yoked together with him,
and learn from him, “For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light (Matthew
11:29-30).”

God’s first law was a law of freedom: You can eat the fruit of any tree in
the garden, but don’t eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil
or you will die (Genesis 2:17). God had to give our first parents a choice,
because without choice there is no freedom. Ask someone who has languished
in a rat-infested prison for having chosen to voice his opinion.

You’ll tell me keeping the law will not save anyone, and you’re right. But
when we stand before Jesus Christ in the judgement, what will he say? “You
obeyed my law the best you could. Welcome to my kingdom (Matthew 25:21).”
Or will he say, “You refused to even try to keep my law, hiding behind a
man-made claim that it was nailed to the cross (Colossians 2:14).”

The counter argument will be, “Lord, Lord. Didn’t we prophesy and cast out
devils and do wonderful works in your name (Matthew 7:22)?” You can read
his answer in vs 23.

Recall the woman who said, "I think God loved us an awful lot to give [the
ten commandments] to us, to protect us from ourselves." She knew God’s law
is to teach mankind the way to live. But, he still gives us a choice. You
can read about it in Deuteronomy 30:19-20.

Despite your objections, God’s law is for Christians. Dr John Gill wrote,
“…this objection proceeds upon a mistaken sense of the phrase, ‘under the
law’ (Romans 6:14); for believers, though they are not under the law as the
ministry of Moses, yet they are under it, as it is in the hands of Christ;
and though not under its curse, yet under obligation to obedience to
it….” Jesus said it this way, “If you love me, keep my commandments (John
14:15).”

Do you love Jesus? Then show your love by keeping his law – all of it.

Dances with Wolves

The following short excerpt is from a Zenit news publication of the dialogue
of Pope JPII to U.S. President Bush last week:

Mr. President, .... I thank you for wishing to meet with me again .... Our
thoughts also turn today to the 20 years in which the Holy See and the United
States have enjoyed formal diplomatic relations, established in 1984 under
Presiden Reagan. These relations have promoted mutual understanding on great
issues of common interest and practical cooperation in different areas. I
send my regards to President Reagan and to Mrs. Reagan, who is so attentive
to him in his illness. I would also like to express my esteem for all the
representatives of the United States to the Holy See, together with my
appreciation for the competence, sensitivity and great commitment with which
they have favored the development of our relations.

Medal of Freedom Writ

What does Bush think of the Roman Catholic Pontiff? He says the Pope is a
devoted servant of God, that he helped get rid of communism, and is a hero.
The inscription on the Medal of Freedom that President Bush presented to
Pope John Paull II last week: "A devoted servant of God, His Holiness Pope
John Paul II has championed the cause of the poor, the weak, the hungry,
and the outcast. "He has defended the unique dignity of every life, and the
goodness of all life. "Through his faith and moral conviction, he has given
courage to others to 'be not afraid' in overcoming injustice and oppression.
"His principled stand for peace and freedom has inspired millions and helped
to topple Communism and tyranny. "The United States honors this son of Poland
who became the Bishop of Rome, and a hero of our time."

Another Gay Cable Channel

The following is a brief from UPI: "MTV Networks announced Tuesday it is
launching LOGO, a channel targeting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender
viewers. "Creating a network specifically for the LGBT community is something
we've wanted to do for a long, long time, and it's an idea we feel is overdue,"
Tom Freston, chairman and chief executive officer of MTV Networks, said in
a statement issued by parent company Viacom Inc. The new channel is to begin
telecasting Feb. 17 in markets in Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Philadelphia,
Atlanta, San Francisco, and other areas. It will be carried by national cable
operators and will be advertiser-supported, the statement said. LOGO's
programming will be a mix of original and acquired shows that target 25-
to 49-year-olds. Viacom's cable networks include MTV, Comedy Central, BET
and Spike TV."

Viacom advertises this abominable LOGO channel as: "a television network
providing entertainment with an authentically gay sensibility, reflecting
the diversity of the gay experience. Acquired movies, series, specials and
original programming that appeal to a broad range of GLBT
[Gay-Lesbian-Bisexual-Transgendered] viewers as well as those who enjoy and
embrace a gay point-of-view."

Canada has PRIDEVISION and other gay channels in the works. The main network
geared to gays and lesbians currently in the US is Here TV, a pay service
available only on satellite TV systems, although it has plans for cable
distribution later this year. Paul Colichman, president of Here TV, said
he sees Logo more as a complementary service - and potential business partner
- than a competitor.

Romans 1:22,24-32 Professing themselves to be wise,
they became fools, ..... Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through
the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature
more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God
gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural
use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving
the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men
with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that
recompence of their error which was meet.
And even as they did not like
to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate
mind
, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with
all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness;
full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters,
haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient
to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection,
implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which
commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have
pleasure in them that do them.

Buy-It Diets

   [portions adapted from an AP
article]

There are many different "bible-based" diet plans on the market these days.
And most also peddle some super supplements that cost an arm and a leg to
achieve the utopian health goal. The "Rev." George Malkmus has the Hallelujah
Diet which is strictly Vegan (vegetarian) in nature. The Hallelujah Diet
bans all animal products except for honey and promotes an 80 percent raw
diet. (His own researchers later found the diet extremely deficient in vitamin
B-12.) Dr. Don Colbert published a book last year titled "What Would Jesus
Eat?'' which encourages eating non-animal-derived "living foods" and eschewing
most "dead" or processed foods. Gwen Shamblin has "The Weigh Down Diet" that
offers few food restrictions but encourages following "God's perfect boundaries
of hunger and fullness." The most biblical of the new Christian diets is
Jordan S. Rubin's "The Maker's Diet" which encourages getting homeostatic
organisms from the soil and eating a biblically clean diet (only biblically
approved meats are allowed). Rubin, whose unverified degrees in naturopathic
medicine and nutrition involved unaccredited programs, advises eating foods
in their most organic and least-processed forms. Rubin said, "The healthiest
diet is to consume meats, poultry, dairy, fruits and vegetables and to consume
them in a form the body was designed for." He warns against an all-raw, vegan
regimen and sticks to the book of Leviticus as a pivotal point in his plan.

So what should a person do? Meat or vegan? Raw or cooked? Balanced amounts
of each? What should we put into "God's Temple"? Sadly, many of God's people
get caught up in having a greater concern for the physical body that is perishing
than for nourishing the spirit by which they have life. Some have elevated
the nourishing of the physical body with being close to God or with being
godly. It has replaced the worship of God for some. The Apostle Paul warned
in Galatians 3:3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in
the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

Here are some tips to help you diet sensibly as well as biblically: Eat slowly
and chew thoroughly. Follow God's commands for allowed foods (this includes
clean meats). Eat foods in their most natural form and avoid processed junk.
Get some regular exercise (don't be obsessed but only disciplined - go for
15-30 minutes a day building up slowly- weight training and isometrics are
preferred). Don't eat too much of anything (limit portion sizes and use
self-control). Read your bible ... nourish the spirit within you so you always
keep things in their proper perspective.

Twisted Scriptures -
Are the new versions just "per-versions"?     -
by Kenneth M. Hoeck

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto
God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word
of truth.

From time to time, in this column, we present some comparative analysis of
the many different bible versions to show the errors and omissions of many
of the modern versions. Today we are looking at Matthew 20:16 from the Parable
of the Vineyard. Can you see what is missing in the new age versions?

Matthew 20:16 outwV esontai oi escatoi

    Version)

    Version)

  • Matthew 20:16 "So the last shall be first, and the

  • Matthew 20:16 "And so it is, that many who are first

    NLT (New Living Tranalation)

  • Matthew 20:16 And Jesus concluded, "So those who are
last will be first, and those who are first will be last." - Good News
    Translation

  • Matthew 20:16 "Here it is again, the Great Reversal:
many of the first ending up last, and the last first." - The Message (modern
    bible version)

  • Matthew 20:16 Thus the last ones will be first and
the first last." - Complete Jewish Bible

  • Matthew 20:16 So the last will be first, and the first
last. - (BBE) Bible in Basic English

  • Matthew 20:16 "So the last shall be first, and the
first last." - (WNT) Weymouth New Testament

  • Matthew 20:16 "So the last will be first, and the first
last." - The Holman Christian Standard Bible

As you can plainly see, many of the new age versions omit the words of Jesus
Christ when He said "for many be called, but few chosen."

The Vineyard parable can be interpreted dually. First, since the grumbling
workers still received their penny we can see that some are called to different
levels of service for varying durations and yet still receive the same reward
[eternal life]. Second, we can also see that just because one is called and
shows up - it doesn't mean that he met the standard of service.

We can gain a greater insight because, although the Adversary has tried to
remove the line from the bible, God's Word self-protects the phrase as Jesus
Christ repeated the line in: Matthew 22:14 "For many
are called, but few are chosen."
This line can no longer be omitted
in many Bible versions without totally deleting verse 14, or substituting
another. Thus, the message of our Lord, "Only a few" and "For many will seek
to enter in, and shall not be able" remains preserved in all Bible versions!
To correctly understand what Jesus meant in Matt 20:16, it is critical to
read the other parable in Matt 22:14. It involves many receiving an invitation
to the wedding but not all responding or showing up in the proper attire
(clothed with the righteousness of the saints). Bible Commentator Matthew
Henry said, "Many are called with a common call, that are not saved with
a saving choice." Just as we can say, "Many are invited, but not all are
approved."

Jesus is reiterating the principle he uttered in Matthew 7:13-14 "Enter ye
in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth
to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is
the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be
that find it."

Although God's kingdom is for everyone and the invitation goes out to all,
there are still standards.

Hebrews 4:1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise
being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short
of it.

Philippians 2:12-15 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have
