Accused of Foul-play

In Lima Peru, a Roman Catholic Cardinal was accused of being part of a plot
to murder his predecessor. Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani, friend of fugitive
ex-President Alberto Fujimori, was an Opus Dei leader who was appointed by
the Vatican in 2001 to fill the place of the deceased liberal Jesuit Monsignor
Augusto Vargas Alzamora who suffered a "debilitating cerebral hemorrhage"
that left him bedridden for four months prior his death in September 2000.
Consort and head of security for Fujimori, Vladimiro Montesinos was the chief
suspect in the case and Cipriani was served subpeona to testify for his possible
colloaboration in the alleged murder. Cipriani spoke of the investigation
during his Palm Sunday Mass according to a Reuters source, "Mister prosecutor,
open your mysterious files and say who mentioned me in a fictitious event
because everyone knows that the cardinal died of natural causes after a long
illness.'

Twisted Scriptures - Are the new versions just
"per-versions"?
- by Kenneth M.
Hoeck

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved
unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the
word of truth.

From time to time, in this column, we present some comparative analysis of
the many different bible versions to show the errors of many of the modern
versions. Today we are looking at Luke 4:4.

Here is another of the numerous OMISSIONS from the original Greek texts that
appears (or shall we say DOESN'T APPEAR) in some of the modern translations.
Let's look at the anglicanized Greek first.

Luke 4:4 And Jesus
answered him ,
saying , It is written , That man
shall not live by
bread alone , but by
every word of God .
- KJV with Strong's Numbers (shows each word from the
original Greek)

We see every word the translators used to translate the text into English
or other various languages. Now, let us go on to read this verse from several
translations:

Luke 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying,
It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word
of God.
- KJV (King James Version)

Luke 4:4 But Jesus answered him, saying,
"It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word
of God.
' " - NKJV (New King James Version)

Luke 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying,
It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word
of God.
- WBT (Webster's Bible Translation)

Luke 4:4 Jesus answered him, saying,
"It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word
of God.'
" - WEB (World English Bible)

In the four above-listed versions (of this particular scripture) we see some
accurate translations. Let us look at this verse in a few of the New Age
versions:

Luke 4:4 And Jesus answered unto him,
It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone. -
ASV (American Standard Version)

Luke 4:4 And Jesus answered him, "It
is written, `Man shall not live on bread alone.' "
- NAS (New American Standard Version)

Luke 4:4And Jesus answered him, "It is
written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone.'" - RSV
(Revised Standard Version)

Luke 4:4 But Jesus told him, "No! The
Scriptures say, 'People need more than bread for their life.'
- NLT (New Living Translation)

Luke 4:4 And Jesus made answer to him,
It has been said in the Writings, Bread is not man's only need.
- BBE (bible in Basic English)

Luke 4:4 But Jesus answered him, "It
is written: Man must not live on bread alone." - The
Holman Christian Standard Bible

Luke 4:4 Jesus answered, "It is written:
'Man does not live on bread alone.'" -NIV (New
International Version)

Luke 4:4 Jesus answered by quoting
Deuteronomy: "It takes more than bread to really live." -
The Message

We see in the eight latter-listed per-versions of Luke 4:4 that some words
have been purposefully LEFT OUT. WHY would any conscientious translator leave
out, of one verse, some five words (or 25% of the original verse)
in a dutiful translation? What power or spirit would want to let SOME of
God's word get through but not ALL of God's Word?

In Luke 4:4 Jesus answered the Adversary after he tried to tempt Him to command
the stones to turn to bread. The devil tried to get Christ to DOUBT and DISTRUST
GOD for sustenance. He tried to get Him to DOUBT His own Messiahship (IF
you are the Son of God THEN ...) The Lord Jesus, skilled in wielding the
Sword of the Spirit, answered with the Word of God from Deuteronomy 8:3.

Deuteronomy 8:1 All the commandments which I command thee this day shall
ye observe to do, that ye may live
, and multiply, and go
in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers. 2 And thou
shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee
these forty
years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what
was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.

3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with
manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might
make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word
that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.
4 Thy
raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty
years. 5 Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth
his son, so the LORD thy God chasteneth thee. 6 Therefore thou shalt keep
the commandments of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.

We see that the Old Testament reference, that Jesus used, contextually concerned
the keeping of God's commandments. This may be the reason the modern
"per-versions" leave off the end of Luke 4:4. The omitted words remind us
of God's commandments and our duty to be obedient to them. They remind us
that just because we may suffer at times, our primary function is to love,
honor, and obey our God, and neither discomfort nor persecution are reason
for distrust or disobedience of God. We must study and meditate upon every
word of God so we are prepared during times of adversity.

We must learn that the scripture, or the word of God, is the only sure weapon
wherewith to vanquish Satan, and to beat back all his fiery temptation. Truly,
as Jesus said, "man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word
of God.
"

Revelation 22:19 And if any man shall take away
from the words
of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his
part out of the book of life
, and out of the holy city, and from the
things which are written in this book.
