4,450 Priests Accused of Abuse

A CNN report stated that according to a draft of a nationwide survey of Catholic
bishops in nearly all of the 195 Catholic dioceses in the U.S. on the extent
and causes of sexual abuse by members of the Roman Catholic clergy has found
that 4,450 priests have been accused of sexually abusing minors since 1950.
That is a higher number than has previously been estimated by any news outlet
or by most experts but way lower than some extreme estimates. CNN reported
that there were 11,000 accusations of sexual abuse by priests, 6,700 were
substantiated after investigations, 1,000 were unsubstantiated after
investigations and that the remaining 3,300 were not investigated because
the accused priests had died.

Understand that this report is only on admitted cases and is only based on
information supplied by Catholic bishops (a case of the wolf guarding the
hen house). The Vatican 2002 statistical report indicated the number of diocesan
and religious priests to be 44,487.

The Times did a survey and it determined that 1.8 percent of all priests
ordained from 1950 to 2001 had been accused of abuse. But the research also
suggested only the tip of an evil iceberg was being seen.  In dioceses
that have divulged complete lists of abusive priests under court orders or
voluntarily the percentages are much higher. For example, In Baltimore, an
estimated 6.2 percent of priests ordained in the past half-century have been
implicated in the abuse of minors.  Similarly, in Manchester, N.H.,
the percentage is 7.7, and in Boston, it is 5.3.  The Times data include
only cases in which priests were identified by name.  In the first 12
months after the scandal exploded throughout the church 432 accused priests
resigned, retired, or been removed from ministry.

What percentage of a chance of your child being molested is worth the risk
to you? Have your friends and family members calculated the risks? If you
know a Catholic person with a child in altar service, or in Catholic school
where priests are present warn them in gentleness and love but yet with urgency.
If they can't get them alone - they can't hurt them. Again, what percentage
of a chance of your child being abused is worth the risk?

Revelation 18:4-5 And I heard another voice from heaven,
saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins,
and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto heaven,
and God hath remembered her iniquities.

United Christianity For A United Europe

Cardinal Walter Kasper, the president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting
Christian Unity, visited the Russian capital and delivered a message at Moscow's
Catholic Cathedral of Mary Immaculate. Cardinal Kasper said that the Holy
Spirit had "inspired repentance and shame" for the schism between the East
and the West Churches. He said that the Holy Spirit "started the ecumenical
movement. [... which] tends to the re-establishment of a unity that is neither
absorption nor fusion, but unity in the mutual respect of a plurality of
rites and cultures."

The cardinal stressed commanalities such as praying the same repititious
"Our Father" prayer. Kasper said, "The re-establishment of unity today is
urgent also for the unity of Europe. ... Europe is not only an economic unity
of well-being, it is a cultural unity. ... The unity of Europe cannot be
built only with the economy. Europe needs a soul, a Christian soul, which
was implanted in your country by Saints Cyril and Methodius. So, the unity
of Europe also makes urgent the unity of the Church."

Cardinal Kasper joined with Metropolitan Kirill, president of the Department
for External Ecclesiastical Relations of the Orthodox Patriarchate of Mosco
in a high level ecumenical dialogue to discuss further unity between the
two Churches.

The Day Darwin Evolved

Atheists, agnostics and humanists want February 12, the birthday of Charles
Darwin, to evolve into an international holiday. Several organizations in
the Americas, Europe and Asia see February 12th as "Darwin Day" which they
hope to achieve by 2009- 150 years after the birth of British biologist Charles
Darwin. In 1859 Darwin penned "The Origin of Species by Means of Natural
Selection" Subtitled "or The Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle
for Life." Events marking Darwin's birthday this year are scheduled in the
United States, Canada, Australia, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, South
Africa, Zambia,India and Nepal.

elected Pope Eugene III

1637 - Ferdinand III succeeds Ferdinand II as Holy Roman Emperor

1995 - Population of People's Republic of China hits 1.2 billion

February 16

0600 - Pope Gregory the Great decrees "God bless You" as the religiously
correct response to a sneeze. Sneezing was a possible sign of the plague
and the response was seen as a protection or as last rites. Millions still
bow to this papal decree today.

1559 - Pope Paul IV [John Peter Carafa] calls for deposition of sovereigns
supporting heresy. This was the pope who in 1557 had began the infamous "Index
of Forbidden Books". He once wrote, "If my own father
were a heretic I would personally gather the wood to burn him."

though possibly assassinated ."

1568 - Holy Roman Emperor agrees to pay annual tribute to Sultan for peace.

1600 - Giordano Bruno, advocate of Copernican theory, burned at stake at
age 52 after 8 years in prison. Bruno had challenged what remain basic Catholic
church principles, such as the Trinity. When he was condemned as an impenitent
heretic, Bruno spoke to his judges the famous words: "You
tremble more in passing this sentence than I do in receiving it."
According to a Catholic chronicle of the time, Bruno refused to pray
to a crucifix and died swearing so. The inquisitor at his prosecution was
Jesuit theologian St. Robert Bellarmine. "He said he
neither had to nor wanted to repent, and didn't know what to repent, nor
what he had to repent,''
a transcript of the trial noted. It is often
maintained that Bruno was executed because of his Copernicanism and his belief
in the infinity of inhabited worlds. In fact, we do not know the exact grounds
on which he was declared a heretic because his file is conveniently missing
from the records.

1688 - James Renwick hanged in Scotland for being a Presbyterian

1741 - English revivalist George Whitefield advised in a
letter: 'Be content with no degree of sanctification.
Be always crying out, "Lord, let me know more of myself and of thee."'

Carnival / Lent

During Carnival half of Brazil puts everything on hold to party the night
away. The other half holds some that don't like it, some that hate it, and
some that just don't care. Carnival, the word means literally 'Farewell to
the Flesh". And with all the drunken revelry, wild dancing and partying,
this term brings to mind the scriptures in ... Isa
22:13 And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating
flesh, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for to morrow we shall die.
And in ... 1Co 15:32 If after the manner of
men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantageth it me, if the
dead rise not? let us eat and drink; for to morrow we die
. ... It
can be easily rendered 'the removal of meat' referring to a season or festival
of merrymaking before the Catholic-observed 'Lent.'

AP ran a story about Brazilian group Grande Rio that agreed Thursday "to
tone down its sexually explicit displays for the city's famed Carnival parade
after prosecutors threatened to ban the floats." Grande Rio's carnival theme
is: "Let's Wear the Little Shirt, My Love,'' [slang for using a condom].
The group agreed out of court to "modify the explicit decorations on its
floats, including a giant Adam and Eve copulating and sexual positions from
the Kama Sutra." The group's president Helio de Oliveira said the changes
would be minor, "... we are going to cover some things with leaves and vines
and roots.'' Rio de Janeiro's two-day-long carnival parade is the highlight
of the country's five day pre-Lenten bash which lasts until Ash Wednesday.

Lent is the time directly following Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) a time of gross
debauchery when people 'get in all their sinning' in preparation of fasting
for Lent. It is clearly a pagan practice to observe Lent. Below is a commentary
and a few quotes to show why.

Lent leads into Easter and this is how that came about: Queen Ishtar's son,
Tammuz, was killed by a wild boar. Queen Ishtar told the people that Tammuz
was now ascended to his father, Baal (also known as Nimrod), and that the
two of them would be with the worshippers in the sacred candle or lamp flame
as Father, Son and Spirit. Ishtar, who was now worshipped as the "Mother
of God and Queen of Heaven", continued to build her mystery religion. The
queen told the worshippers that when Tammuz was killed by the wild pig, some
of his blood fell on the stump of an evergreen tree, and the stump grew into
a full new tree overnight. This made the evergreen tree sacred by the blood
of Tammuz. She also proclaimed a forty day period of time of sorrow each
year prior to the anniversary of the death of Tammuz. During this time, no
meat was to be eaten. Worshippers were to meditate upon the sacred mysteries
of Baal and Tammuz, and to make the sign of the "T" in front of their hearts
as they worshipped. They also ate sacred cakes with the marking of a "T"
or cross on the top.

"The word Lent is of Anglo-Saxon origin, meaning spring." (Marguerite Ickis,
The Book of Religious Holidays and Celebrations, New York: Dodd, Mead &
Company, 1966, p.114)

"The celebration of Lent has no basis in Scripture, but rather developed
from the pagan celebration of Semiramis's mourning for 40 days over the death
of Tammuz (cf. Ezek 8:14) before his alleged resurrection---another of Satan's
mythical counterfeits." (John MacArthur, Jr., The MacArthur New Testament
Commentary: 1 Corinthians, Chicago: Moody, 1984)

"'It ought to be known,' said Cassianus, the monk of Marseilles, writing
in the fifth century, and contrasting the primitive Church with the Church
in his day, 'that the observance of forty days had no existence, so long
as the perfection of that primitive Church remained inviolate.' Whence, then,
came this observance? The forty days abstinence of Lent was directly borrowed
from the worshippers of the Babylonian goddess." [The Two Babylons (Or The
Papal Worship), Alexander Hislop, 1916, Neptune, NJ, Loizeaux Brothers, Inc.,
p.104]

So according to Catholics, Lent is derived from the 40 days Jesus spent fasting
in the wilderness, but it is admitted that the observance of Lent was unknown
to the disciples and it did not find its way into the church until several
centuries after the time of Christ. It should be noted that the 40 days of
fasting in the wilderness preceded the earthly ministry of Jesus, which lasted
some three and a half years, and was not connected in any way to His crucifixion
or the Passover.

Note that Lent is a moveable observance, connected to and preceding the festival
of Easter. Easter is celebrated on a day specified only by the Roman Catholic
Church, and not the Bible, and is fixed based on the sun and the Spring or
Vernal equinox. ~ Schiefler's BibleLight

The reasons for celebrating our [Catholic]major feasts when we do are many
and varied. In general, however, it is true that many of them have at least
an indirect connection with the pre-Christian [pagan] feasts celebrated about
the same time of year — feasts centering around the harvest, the rebirth
of the sun at the winter solstice (now Dec. 21, but Dec. 25 in the old Julian
calendar), the renewal of nature in spring, and so on.~Source: The New Question
Box - Catholic Life for the Nineties, copyright 1988 by John J. Dietzen,

Peoria Illinois, 61651., page 554.

Imbolc, February 2- Has its origins in a calving festival celebrated throughout
northern Europe. In many cultures of the northern hemisphere, February was
a purifactory month, so the rituals of Imbolc also incorporate purifactory
elements (most notably bonfires). In the xian calendar this festival was
converted to the Feast of the Purification of the Virgin (Mary), marking
the end of the traditional 40 day period of ritual impurity following the
birth of a child for Jewish women. It was on this day that the candles for
the following year were purified (along with the Virgin!) in the western
church - thus the name Candlemas. It is probable that the backward extension
of Lent as a penitential (therefore purifactory) period had something to
do with a survival of the pre-xian Imbolc. ~ Pagan Holidays

Un-Nuke

Mohamed ElBaradei, the director-general of the International Atomic Energy
Agency [the U.N. nuclear dept] demanded that the world's nuclear powers do
more to stop the spread of nuclear weapons. ElBaradei called on the United
States and the other declared nuclear powers [Britain, France, Russia, and
China] to relinquish their nuclear weapons as part of a global effort to
make it impossible for nuclear weapons to fall into the hands of terrorists
- a concern he shares with U.S. President George W. Bush.

reorganized the predominant Roman Catholic church. Joseph ceased most forms

1431 - English begin "trial" against Joan of Arc, French saint and national
heroine, called the Maid of Orléans. Today she is romanticized in
many stories but she began as a young farm girl who heard the voices of whom
she thought was St. Michael, St. Catherine, and St. Margaret. If she did
hear these voices they were indeed the voices of demons for the scriptures
tell us that the dead are 'asleep' awaiting their 'change'. When she was
about 16, the voices exhorted her to fight in the wars of the time. When
she was caught in 1431, the English turned her over to the ecclesiastical
court at Rouen, where she was tried for heresy and witchcraft by French clerics
who supported the English. Probably her most serious crime was the claim
of direct inspiration from God; in the eyes of the court this refusal to
accept the church hierarchy constituted heresy- of which she did recant at
the end of the trial. She was condemned to life imprisonment, but shortly
afterward she retracted her abjuration. She was then turned over to the secular
court as a relapsed heretic and was burned at the stake (May 30, 1431) in
Rouen. The proceedings of the original trial were annulled in 1456. Joan
was canonized by the Catholic church in 1920.

1513 - Julius II [Giuliano dellea Rovere], Roman Catholic Pope (1503-13),
dies at 69. (Probably succumbed to the syphillis that racked his body. Reputedly
a 'man of appetites' (wine, sex, food, war) and a 'hot temper'(carried a
stick which he would hit people with). It is believed he also had a
'relationship' with artist Michaelangelo - whom Julius made to paint the
Sistine chapel. Julius II also issued a papal bull in 1510 establishing a
'house of ill repute' if you can imagine that one.

1595 - Robert Southwell, English Jesuit, a master of disguises, in 1592 he
was apprehended and arrested. He was imprisoned during an intense time of
Catholic/Protestant persecution to each other and after being tortured he
was tried for treason. Upon admitting his jesuit priesthood, he was hanged
and quartered.

1885 - Washington Monument dedicated in Wash DC. The monument is an upright
obelisk which is in reality a pagan fertility symbol.

The Jesuits

Some notes & quotes on the Society of Jesus better known as The Jesuits.

"Notorious in the past, expelled from every country in Europe and banned
from residence in England until 1902, the Jesuits have often been described
as the 'secret army of the Papacy.' The preface to Edmund Paris' book The
Secret History of the Jesuits includes a warning to the church which has
been sounded many times in relation to the threat posed by the
Counter-Reformation: 'The order of the Society of Jesus was founded by Ignatious
Loyola to secretly accomplish two major goals for the Roman Catholic Institution.
The first was to obtain universal political power; the second, to establish
the universal church. The Reformation had seriously damaged the Roman system.
The way forward, apart from the Inquisition, was by infiltration and penetration
into every section of life, with the aim of enforcing the canons and doctrines
and temporal power of the Pope. To that end Jesuits went to work, secretly
infiltrating all Protestant groups, colleges, etc. Today the Jesuits have
almost completed that mission." ~ Michael de Semlyen, All Roads Lead to Rome
