Halloween banned in Moscow schools
[story link sent by Brad J Hoeck - AZ - CoG A Way
Of Life]

The Russian Orthodox Church called on educators in Moscow to ban Halloween
because it is "pagan" and "satanic." According to local news sources, the
Moscow Education Department advised all schools via a letter that "Halloween
celebration cannot be allowed in any form." The letter said, "The very fact
that Halloween activities contain elements such as the cult of death, scoffing
at death, personification of death and evil spirits produces a destructive
effect upon the psychological, moral and spiritual health of students."

UnHallowed Origins of Halloween
[by Ken Hoeck- TOTW
Ministries]

The Encyclopedia Americana states that Halloween "is clearly a relic of pagan
times." Its 5th century BC origins are tied to the ancient Celtic race and
their Druidic priests. Druid worship is founded upon the ideal of pluralistic
worship of the "Divine" through nature, seeking an awareness of ones symbiosis
with nature. The Druids observed holiday called Samhain [pronounced Sow-en]
named after the false god who was the "The Lord of the Dead." [Romans 14:9
tells us that Christ is the true Lord of the living and the dead.] To the
pagans Samhain was a time when the division between the world of the living
and the world of the dead became very thin. A time when hostile supernatural
forces were active. A time when demons, ghosts and evil spirits were free
to wander as they wished. The pagan Celts believed on that day, the disembodied
spirits of all those who had died throughout the preceding year would come
back in search of living bodies to possess for the next year. Those not wanting
to be possessed sometimes dressed as a ghoul to fool the so-called "real
deal", even leaving treats to appease them [food offered to false gods or
idols]. All historic resources will ultimately lead one to the same druidic
beginning that has no place in the lives of followers of Christ.

Now, as most know, the Roman Catholic Church would gain new converts (by
various means) and let them retain their pagan practives as long as the names
were changed to make it look "christian." The RCC has 'painted' many a holiday
with a form of godliness which denies the power thereof. In the 7th century,
Pope Boniface IV introduced All Saints' Day to replace the pagan festival
of the dead. It was observed on May 13. In 834, Gregory III moved All Saint's
Day from May 13 to Nov. 1 and this became an opportunity for Catholics to
remember all the saints who had died and all the dead in the Christian community.
Oct. 31 thus became All Hallows' Eve ('hallow' means 'saint') or the evening
prior the day of All Hallows (All Saint's Day).

Young America was a home for Christians who desired to worship God by their
conscience and not under Romes thumb. Halloween was not a day the Founding
Fathers observed. The custom of Halloween was apparently brought to America
in the 1840's by Irish immigrants. The first recorded instance in the United
States of a Halloween celebration occurred in Anoka, Minn. in 1921.
"The American celebration rests upon Scottish and Irish
folk customs which can be traced in direct line from pre-Christian times.
... Although Halloween has become a night of rollicking fun, superstitious
spells, and eerie games which people take only half seriously, its beginnings
were quite otherwise. The earliest Halloween celebrations were held by the
Druids in honor of Samhain, Lord of the Dead, whose festival fell on November
1."
(Halloween Through The Centuries, by Ralph Linton, Page 4.)

Many of the original pagan trappings of the day honoring Samhain are still
practiced by Trick-or-Treaters today. Many kids and adults dress up in a
false personage seeking candy from neighborhood homes. Gluttony often abounds
when the 'booty' is brought home. The Chicago Dental Society calculated that
a trick-or-treater, on average, will consume 5,435 calories and more than
three cups of sugar from Halloween candy. Calorically-speaking, it is comparable
to consuming 3 quarts of double chocolate ice cream or 2.5 gallons of soda.

I would be remiss if I did not mention of the opportunity Trick-or-Treating
and/or Halloween celebration allows for murderers (poison candy, glass chips,
razor blades, etc.), abductors, pedophiles, and vandals to unleash malicious
behavior on the unsuspecting population. The day is also used as an 'excuse'
for adults to have drunken parties and to commit fornication. These activities
heap these additional sins upon the sins of honoring false gods, evil spirits,
and belief in immortal souls of men. The day is still a 'high holiday' for
wiccans (nature worship, earth goddess) and satanists (of nearly as many
flavors as Christian denominations). "After one's own
birthday, the two major Satanic holidays are Walpurgisnacht (May 1st) and
Halloween (or All Hallow's Eve)."
[The Satanic Bible by
Anton Levey page 96, section on Religious Holidays.]

Halloween was originated as an ungodly celebration. It is still ungodly today.
Some well-meaning people seek to paint it over with a form of godliness but
they do deny the power of Him. God told His people to have no part in activities
used to worship other gods. The scriptures tell us to not eat anything (candy,
etc.) "offered unto idols" and treats handed out in blind continuance of
this ancient druidic rite is tantemount to such. The Bible shows us the falseness
of the 'immortal soul' doctrine that this 'holiday' promotes; albeit mostly,
unwittingly. A Christian/Believer should not give Satan this opportunity
to entice people to sin. Ephesians 4:27 Neither
give place to the devil.
Just say "NO" to Halloween - in its entirety.

Scriptures For Witnessing

Exodus 22:18 Thou shalt not suffer a witch to
live.

Deuteronomy 18:9-14 When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God
giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those
nations. There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or
his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or
an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or
a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a
wizard
, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are
an abomination unto the LORD
: and because of these abominations the LORD
thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
Thou shalt be perfect with
the LORD thy God. For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened
unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy
God hath not suffered thee so to do.

Ezekiel 44:23 And they shall teach my people the difference
between the holy and profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean
and the clean.

2 Corinthians 6:14-18 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers:
for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion
hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what
part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the
temple of God with idols?
for ye are the temple of the living God; as
God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their
God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them,
and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing
;
and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my
sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

1 Corinthians 10:19-21 What say I then? that the idol
is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any
thing? But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they
sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should
have fellowship with devils. Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the
cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table
of devils.

Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed
by the renewing of your mind,
that ye may prove what is that good, and
acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Galatians 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these;
Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry,
witchcraft,
hatred, variance, emulations [jelousies], wrath, strife,
seditions [divisions], heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness,
revellings
[parties/orgies], and such like: of the which I tell
you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do
such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

There are many more than can be found in the pages of your own bible ...
blow the dust off it and read it daily.

Cross-Eyed in Rome

Speaking of idols ... in the small town of Ofena 90 miles northeast of Rome,
Islamic activist Adel Smith won a court ruling last week to have a crucifix
removed from his sons' elementary school [public]. The Vatican-dwellers are
hopping mad and have rallied even politicians to speak out. Catholic, Muslims,
and many others have joined with the Roman Catholic Church to fight this
ruling. Some politicians and educators have even said that the cross was
now a "secular and universal" symbol that is a base of Italian identity and
world culture. Other schools not named in the action will not pull down their
crucifixes according to one school official.

An object needn't be itself worshipped to be an idol. The truth is that any
object revered and/or used so in worship is indeed an idol. Look in Merriam
Webster's Dictionary and you will find five entries for idol.

idol

1 : a representation or symbol of an object of worship; broadly : a false
god

2 a : a likeness of something b : obsolete : PRETENDER, IMPOSTOR

3 : a form or appearance visible but without substance phantom, a lifeless idol —P. B. Shelley>

4 : an object of extreme devotion ; also : IDEAL
2

5 : a false conception : FALLACY

Hate Mates?

After two years, the two men who were charged with violating Victoria State's
Racial and Religious Tolerance Act are back in court. The pastors, Daniel
Scot and Danny Nalliah, are on trial because they taught a seminar in Australia
for Christians, in the wake of the 911 incident, that included information
on the Islamic religion and quotes from the Qur'an [Koran]. Three Muslims
in the audience are accusing the two of "vilifying Muslims" and the Islamic
Council of Victoria is contending that the seminar violated Victoria State's
Racial and Religious Tolerance Act. Persecution & Prayer Alert from VoM
said that "During the trial, the two accused will not be allowed to argue
whether or not their statements from the Koran and other Islamic sources
are true; but only whether or not they 'incited hatred against, serious contempt
for, or revulsion or severe ridicule'" of Muslims.  On The Net:

Me and Now

Saul, the first king of Israel, had a political problem. His nation was about
to be attacked, and the people expected someone to offer supplication and
sacrifice to the God of Israel.  Unlike the nations around them, the
king of Israel did not have absolute, despotic power.  Religious duties
resided with the prophets and priests, but the prophet had left the neighborhood
and hadn't yet returned.

If there is one sentence that describes King Saul, it would be, "It's all
about me, and it's all about now."  And because it was all about him
and all about now, Saul took it upon himself to sacrifice, playing a role
that was not his to play.

He had made a mistake, but he refused to own up to it.  "It's your fault,
prophet, because you weren't here (literally, "You did not come within the
appointed time").  The people were leaving ME, so I had to do it NOW
(literally, "When I saw that the people were scattered from me … I felt compelled
and offered a burnt offering")."  Read his words in I Samuel 13:1-2
and count the number of times he uses the first person pronoun, and you'll
get the real flavor of this "me and now" personality.

In the New Testament Jesus uses a term to refer to the scribes and Pharisees
of his day:  "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites."

Hypocrite!  It's a word that comes from the Greek hupokrites, which
essentially means play-actor.  In the Greek theater, the hupocrites
wore a mask to cover his real identity and used his voice to mimic the character
he portrayed.   A hupocrites was a play-actor.  For public
consumption he appeared one way, but the real man was something else.

Saul was doing just that.  He played a role that belonged not to him.
He was a hupocrites -- just like you and me.  Sometimes we play the
role of Christians.  We go to church, spiel the right buzzwords, nod
at the preacher's sermon, and throw an extra dollar in the collection
plate.  But inwardly we harbor dead men's bones of resentment, selfishness,
and impatience.  "It's all about me, and it's all about now."

The second king of Israel was a man after God's own heart.  King David
was terribly flawed human being.  He was a sinner, an adulterer and
a murderer.  He was such a bloody man that God would not let him build
the Temple, a task which was left to his son.

But there was one attribute of David that was above and beyond all his
peers.  That quality made him a special friend of God.  Though
a bloody man, David owned up to his problems, accepted responsibility, and
repented.  He refused to hide behind a mask and play the part of a man
of God on the outside of the platter while the inside was full of extortion
and violence.  When confronted with his sins, he fell on his face and
begged God for forgiveness.

One time, because of David's lack of judgement, the nation fell under a curse
.  David's response was classically David.  "Surely I have sinned,
and I have done wickedly, but these sheep, what have they done?  Let
your hand, I pray, be against me and my father's house"  (II Samuel
24:17).

It wasn't about him and it wasn't about now.  Sinner he was, but hypocrite
he was not.   There was no mask with David, only transparency.

Catholic-Jewish Relations

Riccardo di Segni , the chief rabbi of Rome, praised Pope John Paul II saying:
"There has been no Pope in history who has fostered such good relations between
Judaism and the Catholic Church as John Paul II." In an interview with Catholic
news source ZENIT, Segni was asked in what way has John Paul II changed relations
with Judaism? Rabbi Segni lauded the Pontiff's ecumenism, saying: "In history,
there have been different problems in the Jewish-Christian dialogue, especially
prejudices in regard to Jews. For centuries we have had the perception that
it was a distrust nourished by ideologies and old practices. This type of
approach to Jewish differences has been dismantled by a series of actions
of John Paul II even more than his speeches. I am referring, in particular,
to the Pope's visit to the Synagogue of Rome and his visit to the Western
Wall in Jerusalem. John Paul II has removed the attitudes of contempt and
has established a relationship based on respect and reciprocal dignity."

Did You Hear About ...

Do you carry tales? No, not tails - tales.

Jeremiah 6:27-28 I have set thee for a tower and a
fortress among my people, that thou mayest know and try their way. They are
all grievous revolters, walking with slanders: they are brass
and iron; they are all corrupters.

Like the slick-talking sales merchant of lore, most men are not "valiant
for the truth" [ref. Jer 9:2-6] but often speak goodly before men only to
think badly of them inwardly or speak so amongst others. The word of God
tells us to not bear tales. The law of God says:
Leviticus 19:16 Thou shalt not go up and down as a
talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of
thy neighbour: I am the LORD.

The word 'talebearer' means "slanderous talk or gossip." Talk to do another
harm and not good; more often than not, deceitful, as well. We can see how
the scripture characterizes what a talebearer is like by reviewing a few
words of wisdom from the book of Proverbs:

Proverbs 11:13 A talebearer revealeth
secrets:
but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the
matter.

Proverbs 18:8; Proverbs 26:22 The words of a
talebearer are as wounds
, and they go down into the innermost parts
of the belly.

Proverbs 26:20-21 Where no wood is, there the fire
goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.
As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious
man to kindle strife
.

Proverbs 20:19 He that goeth about as a talebearer
revealeth secrets
: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth
with his lips.

So we see a talebearer is one who tells another's personal matters, who speaks
to anothers hurt, who causes strife or discord, and who sometimes speaks
flattering words. At least three (or maybe all 7) of the things that the
LORD despises are traits of a talebearer. Proverbs 6:16-19
These six things doth the LORD hate: yea,
seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying
tongue
, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth
wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false
witness that speaketh lies
, and he that soweth discord among
brethren
.

James 3:14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts,
glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not
from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife
is, there is confusion and every evil work.

As Paul wrote to Timothy about the young widows we, too, should be mindful
of our speech. 1 Timothy 5:13 And withal they learn
to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers
also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.

We should seek to be pure as the Lord. To be holy in "all manner of conversation"
[ref- 1 Peter 1:15 & 2 Peter 3:11]. Psalms
34:13 Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.

Do not be deceived that goodly words alone makes a man holy for true holiness
begins in the heart. James 1:26 If any man among you
seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but
deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

We all need to clean that inside of the cup - or as the potter might say
- the heart of these vessels. Your own words are on God's record!
Matthew 12:34-37 O generation of vipers, how can ye,
being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the
mouth speaketh. A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth
forth good things:
and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth
forth evil things. But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall
speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy
words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be
condemned.

So, Brethren, what shall we do?

James 3:2-10 For in many things we offend all. If
any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle
the whole body.
Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they
may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. Behold also the ships, which
though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned
about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. Even
so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how
great a matter a little fire kindleth!
And the tongue is a fire, a world
of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the
whole body,
and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on
fire of hell. For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and
of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: But the
tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Therewith
bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made
after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and
cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

James 3:13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge
among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with
meekness of wisdom.

One facet of the fruit of God's holy spirit is "self-control" - that includes
of the tongue! Add gentleness, kindness, meekness, peace and love and let
these things guide your heart, thoughts, actions, .... and speech!

Psalms 39:1 < David.>> I said, I will take heed to my
ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle,
while the wicked is before me.
