FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE!The Silver Spur Award given to stars of Television and Screen Westerns, all in the name of charity! The Reel Cowboys host the 6th Annual Silver Spurs Awards Banquet! The Reel Cowboys, founded in 1996, a 501©(3) not-for-profit California Corporation each year awards their coveted Silver Spur Award to honorees that have had a significant participation in the production of the Great American Institution, THE WESTERN! This year’s event takes place on Friday, November 14, 2003 at the world famous, Sportsman’s Lodge in Studio City, California at 7:00PM The Reel Cowboys are made up of actors, directors, producers, stuntmen and women, rodeo stars, musicians, singers, artists and ‘just plain folk’ that share their love of that great American genre, the TV and Film Western. The Reel Cowboys come together each November to honor special people who have participated in the making of Television and Movie Westerns! “We are grateful to the non-profit organization The Reel Cowboys for providing ongoing and in-kind support to WOMEN’S CARE COTTAGE. On an ongoing basis, The Reel Cowboys have provided essential financial support to WOMEN’S CARE COTTAGE. We have received proceeds from the Reel Cowboys Silver Spurs Awards and contributions from individual members!” Casey Horan, Executive Director, Woman’s Care Cottage, No. Hollywood, Ca A short list of past honorees include: Miss Jane Russell, Mr. Dennis Weaver, Miss Sue Ane Langdon, Miss Virginia Mayo, Mr. Richard Farnsworth, Mr. Burt Kennedy (writer and director), Mr. John Agar, Miss Peggy Stewart, Miss Barbara Hale and Mr. A.C. Lyles (producer)! The 2003 6th Annual Silver Spur Awards honorees will be announced soon! Chuck Connors will be this year’s posthumous award winner. His Silver Spur Award will be accepted by his son, Mr. Jeffrey Alan Connors Master of Ceremonies this year will be Golden Globe and Emmy Nominee, Mr. Bryan Cranston, star of Fox TV's, "Malcolm In the Middle"!!! Tickets are $65.00 each with all proceeds going to the Reel Cowboys selected charities. Each guest receives a multi-course dinner with choice of entrée and dessert. Live entertainment will be provided by the legendary, “Riders of the Purple Sage”. The Riders of the Purple Sage band, have introduced countless western ballads into the mainstream American psyche, their songs like "Ghost Riders in the Sky," "Blue Shadows on the Trail", "Cool, Clear Water", "Tumbling Tumble Weeds," (both also done by the Sons of The Pioneers), "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You", “Tennessee Waltz” and many others have become Western music standards. Still fronted by founding member, Mr. Buck Page, the ‘Riders’ are still instrumental in bringing this great music to countless new devotees!!! In addition, Reel Cowboys’ produced film clip vignettes of honorees will be projected on the big screen in the Empire Dining Room of the Sportsman’s Lodge and a huge raffle with valuable merchandise will be offered! Dancing and many special surprises are also ‘on tap’ for the guests. Please come dressed in all ‘your western finery’!!! A good time is ‘guaranteed to all’!
