Message:   Dear Chorus,

What a productive rehearsal we had this week! For next Thursday, September 27th please prepare the following:

Messiah: No.28 (He Trusted in God), No.33 (Lift Up Your Heads), No.35 (Let all the angels) and No.37 (The Lord gave the Word).

Also please prepare Brahms Requiem Movement VII, p.84-89 (from the beginning to letter C)
We will also pick up on the Faure Requiem, Movement 2 Offertory/O Domine Jesu Christe

Anyone missing September 20th needs to review/practice the Fugue from Movement III of the Brahms Requiem (p.38); Messiah choruses of Part II including Behold the Lamb of God; Surely He hath borne; And with his stripes; All we like sheep. We also focused the diction and timing of the Hallelujah chorus, and read through Faure Cantique de Jean Racine.
Finally, we worked on the end of Faure Requiem Movement 2. The default rest value for that section is a 16th note; you'll need to consult with a friend who was present to get the carry-thru/break directions.

When we perform Messiah we'll be singing Hallelujah, Since by Man, and Worthy is the Lamb from memory. That said, it remains of utmost importance that each member thoroughly mark their score with diction and musicianship notes. If the message doesn't travel from your brain through your arm, into your pencil, you probably won't remember it! The act of editing out scores is of supreme importance for this reason.

Finally, thanks to all of you who cleared your decks for our trip to Costa Rica. I'm sorry that things didn't work out, but I'm delighted that we have another rehearsal together to prepare all this GREAT music. And I'm indebted to our leadership for covering us by securing the deposit, which sets us in fine stead with soloists and an honorarium to the chorus. In effect, all of our attention to the proposed trip was still time well-spent.

Have a great week! And practice, practice, practice...

Love, Kent

P.S. From Liz: Info has been posted on the Chorus News page, under the "Recording Recommendations" heading, about a CD of the Moravec "Songs of Love and War", recorded by the Dessoff Choirs under Kent's direction. http://www.oratoriosocietyofny.org/ChorusNews.html
