Dear Chorus,
That was a fun rehearsal! We got a lot accomplished. Think this week on the words of the Handel choruses. Speak the text away from the music and notice where the natural, lyrical stresses and de-stresses fall. Then as you look at the music, think on this.
For our September 20th rehearsal, please prepare the following:
Brahms Requiem Mvt 3 Fugue, middle of p.38
Messiah Choruses No.22, 24, 25, 26
We'll also look at Faure Mvt 2 and Cantique de Jean Racine
For those who missed last night's rehearsal, be sure to brush up on all Messiah choruses from Part I. In particular we worked on quality of sound, diction (including word stresses and relaxations) and ensemble. So listen especially sensitively to the rest of the chorus when these numbers come up in rehearsal next. We also worked a very little bit on the Sanctus from the Faure Requiem and the Brahms Fugue listed above.
Everyone needs to print out the diction and dynamic sheets which are now on the web for Messiah and study them in general. Its great subway reading! (Available at: http://www.oratoriosocietyofny.org/MasterScoresPage.html)
Have a great week! We are entering a spectacular new era-
