Message:   Dear Chorus,

Thursday's rehearsal was very productive! We are well on our way to an exciting concert- keep up the good work, and please continue to focus carefully on your material outside of rehearsal. Below I list the rehearsal order for BOTH rehearsals this week: Sopranos and Altos are at Turtle Bay, and Tenors and Basses are at Christ Church United Methodist at Park Ave/60th Street. Please work on this material in the order of the rehearsal- the most important excerpts are listed first.

Seating will be Turtle Bay: Sopranos on the right, altos on the left. Christ Church: Tenors on the right, basses on the left.

A note on marking intervals: I realize when I ask you to note that 'such and such is a whole step, not a half step' we have not talked about how to mark this. You should DEFINITELY mark such an occurrence if you have missed an interval twice! I will prepare a handout, which essentially will show a bracket over the two notes in question, with an interval designation written above the bracket. Try it out!

We also will have shortly a complete phonetic handout for the Honegger, courtesy of one of our talented section leaders. This will be of ENORMOUS help to us!

You are all invited to hear some incredible music on February 7 sung by the Choir of St Ignatius Loyola under my direction. We are performing Scarlatti's incredible Stabat Mater- choral music in 10 parts, exquisite in every way, and his grand achievement in the genre. We're also singing Vivaldi's setting of Beatus Vir, a take-off on our very own from last May, but this time for single choir and soloists. Its quite marvelous! Plus Victoria's Salve Regina for double choir and to begin, Domenico Zipoli's Beatus Vir, a wonderful work which that Italian Jesuit composed for the Indigenous peoples of South America, which is a very cool piece! I hope to see you- the concert is at 8 pm, though at 7 pm my friend Matteo Imbruno, organist of the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam (we must go there someday- it was Sweelinck's church!) is performing a recital of Spanish and Italian baroque music. Tickets and info 212-288-2520 or http://www.saintignatiusloyola.org

Here is the rehearsal order for BOTH rehearsals; Turtle Bay first, then Christ Church. Enjoy your practicing this week!

Love, Kent
