Dear Chorus,
It's amazing- when we sing with a 'lifted' and not pushed sound, our sound is so beautiful and in tune! It also 'moves' well, rhythmically speaking. When we 'bear down' on the sound (the old habit) it becomes hard, and the tuning becomes flattish, and our agility decreases. The faster we can move completely into this new paradigm of producing our sound, the greater our success! My joy is in experiencing our rapid growth. It is amazing what we have accomplished in only one year together. So keep up your good work!
Last night we focused on Messiah choruses from the 'happy' part of Part II, and the Amen Chorus. We did not get to any Honegger. Here is the plan for next week:
SEATING: return to the seating of November 2. As you walk in, sopranos will be on the far right, basses on the right of the aisle, tenors to the left of the aisle, and altos to the far left.
Rehearsal Plan: Prepare these portions of Honegger with the French tape/recordings of the diction now available to you: No.3, No.4, No.11, No.16 (to rehearsal 12), No.17 and No.19. These are the choruses which in turn we will sing on Saturday, November 18. Also bring Messiah; we plan to touch on many different choruses.
FOR SATURDAY NOVEMBER 18
This rehearsal is Honegger/Rossini. We will work with our French Coach Thomas Grubb on the choruses above, and if time allows, continue with Rossini.
After Thanksgiving Break we will be devoted to Messiah, with occasional Rossini brush-ups.
You are all invited to the upcoming Sacred Music in a Sacred Space concert on November 15. The Choir of St Ignatius is singing Bruckner's E Minor Mass, which is an absolutely gorgeous, wonderful piece which is too rarely performed. They're also singing an antiphonal opening piece by Janacek, and Nanci Parrella is soloist in an organ concerto. I know you would love hearing this music!
Have a great week, and see you soon,
Love,
Kent |
