Dear Chorus,
Good work last night! As my string player friends say, pitch is everything, and most of us come out of the womb having to work, work, work and work some more to get it right. Last night we made important adjustments and I commend you! The single most important thing to integrate into our singing is to keep the breath low and not to push the sound.
For Saturday please prepare to sing: Stravinsky (Kyrie), Messiah Part II Choruses (Since by Man, But Thanks be to God, Worthy-Amen), and again we'll spend the final 30 minutes on Rossini (for those singing the January Opera Orchestra of NY performance, which will be FUN)! Seating Saturday will be in sections: imagine you are the conductor, with sopranos on your left, basses next, tenors, then altos on your right. So the order is SBTA. Then arrange yourselves to that S1,B1,T1, A1 are in the front rows, and S2, B2, T2 and A2 just behind. If you are confused about your 1/2 designation, I hope to have a handout with that information at Saturday's rehearsal. I now have an Excel doc with all your information entered into it, and need to complete it according to the re-auds for a few people. Once that is done these designations will be clear!
For Thursday, November 2 please prepare to sing: these Messiah Part II Choruses (He Trusted in God, Lift up Your heads, Let All the Angels, The Lord Gave the Word, Their Sound is Gone out, Let us Break their Bonds, Hallelujah). Also please look at the Honegger King David No.3-4 & 11. These are short movements. Let it be said that if you have time, go ahead and look at the entire work- we will be singing it on Saturday Nov 18 for our French coach! Hooray. Seating on Thursday will be by section, and we should try the SAME arrangement as Saturday. This will be quite different, but we need to see how it works for us at Turtle Bay. Could be magic!
To the attendance section leaders: would you let me know after next Thursday's rehearsal who the people are who have missed 3 or more out of our 10 rehearsals to that point? Many thanks for all your diligent work!
Choir, see you Saturday! Have a great day.
Sincerely, Kent |
