Dear Chorus,
Alexander Nevsky is OVER and I'm looking forward to seeing you this Thursday! Congratulations on the continued good work last week. This week we will plan to work on Messiah choruses in part II: please have all dynamics entered for Part II. I will have a redistribution of the 3 way women's divisi for "Lift up your heads"- but please enter those dynamics as well, it will be very easy to switch lines and still have your dynamic information handy. I don't expect to have that SSA detail (3 way divisi) until Wednesday at the earliest.
Along with Messiah we will plan to READ Honegger King David, which we hope to have on hand, and then we will spend the last 30 minutes of the rehearsal on Rossini. I would like to begin our work on Rossini by including ALL those who have volunteered for the Rossini; we will only make cuts if we can't make the balances work. Honegger and Rossini music will (most likely) be available at Thursday's rehearsal.
Seating will be mixed, reverse of last week, with last names Z near the conductor and last names A near the entrance to the hall.
You are ALL invited to the opening season of the year at St Ignatius- Wednesday, October 25 we are doing Handel Coronation Anthem III "The King Shall Rejoice", Randall Thompson's phenomenal a cappella work, "The Peaceable Kingdom" and CPE Bach's "Magnificat". Soloists are Serena Benedetti (who sang our May concert), Sasha Cooke (who is a place-winner in our solo competition and will sing Messiah with us this year), Oliver Mercer (young tenor) and Jesse Blumberg (young baritone). They are terrific! For tickets please call 212-288-2520 or visit http://www.saintignatiusloyola.org
On Saturday the 28th we rehearse from 2-5 pm at 5th Avenue Presbyterian. We will work on Messiah Part III, with all dynamics written in, Stravinsky Mass and the last 30 minutes on Rossini. We have rescheduled our French diction session with Juilliard Prof. Thomas Grubb for the Saturday rehearsal Nov 18th from 2-5 at Turtle Bay, since our Honegger has arrived later than we anticipated. Plan now to be there- Prof. Grubb is looking forward to working with you!
Have a great week, and enjoy working on your music! What a rich banquet we have in front of us-
Love, Kent |
