Dear Chorus,
Great rehearsal Thursday night! We certainly got a lot of good work done. Perhaps the most important achievement was our work on rhythm and intonation. Those absent missed work on Messiah choruses No.24 (Surely) and No.25 (Stripes). We also worked on the Beethoven Kyrie, top to bottom. In the review department we spent time on Messiah No.22 (Behold) and No.41 (Let us Break). We also reviewed Beethoven pp15-21.
Basses please note that the D flat in No.25, ms 45 was a D natural in the Watkins Shaw score. I am going to review some other sources to clarify which direction we will go.
All: Please note that it is not necessary to transfer markings from your old scores to your new ones. We will provide new (and sometimes revised) directions
for our new scores. Please DO transfer personal markings related to vocal production and diction, or about the character of the movements, but not cutoffs
and dynamics, etc.
Prepare for next week: Stravinsky Gloria and Messiah No.26 (Sheep), No.7 (Purify) and No.21 (Yoke). Seating will be the same as this week. Do try to get as far forward as possible, sopranos, as life under that low ceiling is both hot and a little distant. You are doing a great job back there!
Housekeeping: I will be providing soon via the website a complete listing of dynamics for you to enter into your Messiah scores. We'll notify you when those are ready for your diligent consultation! Some of you will recall from last year how helpful that was in speeding up our rehearsal process. It's great when we can sing more and talk less at rehearsal! On another point, please make every effort to get to rehearsal on time, and to stay for the complete rehearsal. I was astonished to see the number of members who are skirting out before the end. Of course, I appreciate that some of our number live quite a distance and train schedules can be tricky. But please do your best to stay as long as possible.
Be sure to review the score marking handout and the diction handout from this week's rehearsal, which will be posted online as well.
Isn't life rich? Have a great week,
Kent
ANOTHER MESSAGE FROM KENT
Dear Chorus,
Below are complete dynamics for all of Messiah! Please enter these into your scores in the next several weeks, using pencil so they can be changed if we choose. I will not be bringing hard copy of this to rehearsal, so please print out at home or office.
Have a great week,
Kent
P.S. From Liz
