Coles Family in Pubs

I am looking for more information about the Coles Family in Bristol Pubs.

The Coach and Horses Highland Square was run by:
Maurice Leslie Coles 1968-1974 (My Uncle)
Norman Victor Coles from 1951-1968 (My Grandfather)

Norman' father William ran the Duke of Devonshire, Temple st. he also ran the Bacchus in Temple street after his parents James and Elizabeth.

James appears to have run the Seven Stars Thomas Lane.
Taking over from William Torrington. (William Torrington was married to Elizabeth' Sister)

in the 1871 Census James is listed in a 'Beer House'
in Victoria st.
How/ Where can I find out more Information about James & William?

Thanks
Neil

Re: Coles Family in Pubs

Neil,

Thanks for your message. As far as I can make out from trade directories, James Coles was at the Victoria Tavern, Victoria Street, St.Philip's (Dings). For more detailed information you will need to visit the Bristol Records Office down in Cumberland Basin, where you can view license applications dating from around 1870 onwards.

Kevin.
