Goat in Armour on Narrow Quay, Bristol
Are you aware that the rather magnificent fireplace from the "Goat in Armour" is now in the meeting room of the Bristol Savages, behind the Red Lodge in Bristol? 19th century pewter tankards stamped "GOAT IN ARMOUR.QUAY" are not that uncommon - we own one, and I have seen two others. Any idea of the origin of the name? The website is brilliant! Regards Mike Marsden |

Mike, Thanks for the information on the fireplace, as to the origin of the pub's name; I don't have a clue, except to say that in the past, goat skin was used to make light weight arrow resisting armour. Does anyone else have any suggestions ? |

Kevin, Many thanks, I hadn't thought of that one as a possibility for the origin of the name. Mike |
