Sexual abused as a child (parents alerted but did nothing)

We emigrated from England to Spain in 1990. I was sexually abused as an eleven year old there. I informed my Dad of it at the time and he didn't prevent it occuring again.

I have written a letter recently to my Mum to say what happened in 1990. She has written back confirming that my Dad told her at the time and has said that I should "deal with it and get over it by yourself" and that's what she thought at the time. I am surprised to learn that my Mum knew about it and swept it under the carpet. There was no further discussion at the time about it - once I had told my Dad. My Dad failed to protect me from it after I had spoken to him.

My questions are:

Are my parents liable legally even now to address it?

What were the options my parents had in 1990 to deal with it effectively?

Would I be able take legal action against their actions (no actions) now because they failed to protect me? They knew what was going on!

Thank you in advance,

Ann Doe
