Therapy to enable abused children to survive as adults

Hi

I would welcome any views, ideas, accounts of experiences at all on whether it is possible for an adult in 40's (abused as child/young person in local authority care) to gain emotional, psychological, physical benefit from therapy or whether this is too late - ie. the damage is too ingrained.

Any accounts of positive/negative experiences, views and opinions on this subject very welcome. Also, suggestions of where one obtains such therapy and the cost?

Any associated issues - please contact me.

Kind wishes and thanks, Vicki

Re: Therapy to enable abused children to survive as adults

Hi
I believe this will always depend on each individual. I have tried one 2 one counseling, and have only ever gone once. although it is with me all the time, its just too horrible to talk about. But i think some people may get much help from being able to talk about what happened to them as a child. Get recommendations from your GP.

Re: Therapy to enable abused children to survive as adults

i am sorry to hear you were abused.

It's never to late to be heard and supported. it's never to late to heal the hurts and know that there are people who really care about what happened to you.
have you got the book "the courage to heal" i would recommend that for starters.
The rape crisis orgnanisation help many people of your age and much much older too.
Good luck.
