re: Child Abuse
Hi. I am a 31 year old female who for some reason, wants some justice. Here is the basic story: My parents were Turkish, living in Canada, my mother was severely abused by my dad, and spent most of her life in the hospital or a sanitarium. Both my parents left my life at the age of 7 and I was put into custody with my dad's ex girlfriend by Children's Aid. The abuse I suffered by the hand of this woman was pretty unreal. I recall at the age of ten calling Children's Aid on several occassions as my gaurdian didn't believe in doctors etc, so needless to say, she was neglectful and a serious alcoholic. One occassion in particular, when I was in grade 5, she fractured my jaw. I didn't know what to do as I was in serious pain and couldn't eat so I called Children's Aid who blew me off as being a melodramatic child. It took me a year to chew again. That was one of many incidences of the lack of concern of children's aid who was suppose to be for the kids. They never checked up on us or helped us in any way. I left that home placement when I was 15 and continued on to put myself through school. I just recently found out that my jaw is in pretty bad shape and that it will cost alot to fix it, or I face not having the ability to chew when I am 50. I did a lot of research last year and after repeated denials from children's aid regarding involvement in my case, it turns out they were very much involved and I finally got some reports that they claimed were missing due to lack of computers in the 1980's. I understand that Children's Aid Society (CAS) has improved since the 90's, however, I feel I lost my entire childhood and I am still suffering physically and emotionally from the abuse at the hands of a gaurdian that CAS approved. I had one CAS worker last year suggest legal action-does anyone have any input? I am also told that if I make an official report, that the gaurdian, who is 77, will be charged. I don't know why but this frightens me to death although I know she can't hurt me anymore. I have never heard of anyone suing CAS but I am very angry that they never responded to the repeated calls by my sisters and I. I would sincerely appreciate any help. Thanks and Happy New Year! |
