HLI (City of Glasgow Regiment) 1945

My Mums Brother died, age 21, on 5th April 1945 and is buried in the Reichswald Forest Cemetery, in Germany. His name is Sam Cowan and he was from Kirkcaldy in Fife.
It would appear that many men from the HLI died that day although we, as a family, have very little information on what the circumstances were.
It was always assumed the Regiment were involved in the crossing of the Rhine but I'm not convinced the Dates tie up ?
The one thing that we do know is that my Grandmother never received his personal belongings because they were stolen in the post.
Can anyone assist with info on how to find out the where's, how's , when's etc. We would really like to fill in the gaps if we can.
Cheers
Keith (webmaster)
