A thought for all ex SCLI &LI

A thought for you all - from Keith (webmaster)

With the reunion now behind us could I please give you another thought and this is to find as many Ex SCLI & LI as possible.

During the course of the year I along with Tony Hood, Vic Higgins, Brian Aldridge and several others put a lot of effort into seeking out ex SCLI wherever they might be hiding, then once found, to try and coax them into coming to reunion keeping in touch permanently.

This is not at all easy as some guys do not want to be found, their privacy must be respected but we have had notable successes so its not all gloom.

The regiment had a nine year life and my calculated guess is 3 to 4000 men passed through in those years, however the Taunton Office sends out 400 invitations to reunion and we get about 150, so there is plenty of scope out there to find SCLI.

Could I please ask you all to tell me details of any SCLI & LI you might know of, I will do the rest to see if they are interested at all in renewing old friendships, finally my thanks to you all for your continued support with your interest and friendship, we all have a common bond which cannot be broken. I simply want to extend that bond to all ex SCLI & LI in the hope they will enjoy it as much as we all do.

Re: A thought for all ex SCLI &LI

I think it is great that you are trying to get old comrades together who served in the SCLI during it's 9 year life as a regiment and your actions should be commended.
A great pity though that there is so much anxiety in your association towards the many more thousands that served in The Light Infantry, which had a 39 year life span as a British regiment from 1968-2007 coming together as one.

Bill.
Nice to have your reply.
The SCLI & LI Reunion is held as a way of keeping all former LIGHT INFANTRY men in touch with each other .Many of us have served a long time in the various Regiments and there is no distinction between SCLI or LI or any of the former Regiments which made up the LI and which now are linked to The Rifles. Any former soldier from the Light Infantry are welcome to attend, Maybe if we know who you are then you can get an Invitation to join up and become an active member .

BROTHERHOOD OF THE LIGHT INFANTRY

Hear, Hear,!! Keith, Terry. Unquestionably the camaraderie of the Light Infantry transcends ALL Regimental boundaries - and eras. We were all part of a unique sector of the British Army and I applaud those who labour hard to keep the memories alive. Endless emails and messages background the thankless task of getting Old Soldiers off their behinds to participate at some level. Even grandchildren can assist today in using the 'puter.

Apathy is a dying art! - practiced by the majority. I can hardly wait to visit as many Branch Meetings in Blighty - if as and when I get there from Dahn Under in 2009.

The selflessness of the industrious few often provides the catalyst to trigger long forgotten memories of our past. GOYA you Old Blokes and sign up and participate.

Tempus Fugit!
