Money and Health insurance

Hi all! My husband and I are so excited to be joining the camp starting next August. We have (so far) 2 concerns
1) We intend on staying several months. What would be the smartest thing to do in terms of getting our money to Thailand. We were thinking of opening a thai bank account and get our money wire transfered to limit bank fees, as opposed use atm or traveller's checks?

2) Also, we have a french international health insurance. We understand that this insurance has a special convention with the Bangkok hospital. Bangkok hospital has a pole in Phuket. Are you familiar with that hospital at all?

Thanks in advance for your help

Re: Money and Health insurance

You can not open a Thai bank account if you are traveling on a Thailand Tourist visa. easiest way to withdraw cash is via the ATM machine or travelers cheques.

Their is a link to the Phuket Bangkkok Hospital on our FAQ page .. follow the lonk below.

Re: Money and Health insurance

Thanks a lot for your reply. I hope that the embassy will issue us non-tourist visas. We took off 9 months of our crazy life to train at Rawai Muaythai Camp. Diana sent us invitation letters. Do your students usually get a non-tourist visa for such an extended period of time?
By the way, excellent work with your site. It is incredibly concise and almost alive

Re: Money and Health insurance

If you are going to be in the UK .. then I would recommend use the Thai Embassy @ BIRMINGHAM, they will issue you with 1 year visa's over the counter. If you not in the area you can courier your passports & visa application to them.

Hi Danny!

Sorry took forever to get back to the forum; been super busy preparing for our departure!
Glad you liked the choice of word Thanks a million for the info about the embassy in Birmingham. The thing is: I am a French citizen and my huband is Moroccan. Wouldn't it look strange that we send our visa request to England??

Re: Money and Health insurance

Just called the embassy in Birmingham and they confirmed that they would issue a non-immmigrant visa to any nationality!!! sounds so unreal to me...
Well, we have an invitation letter from the camp for 9 months. Will the Birmingham embassy issue a visa for the full 9 months, but more importantly; how many entries do we get?

Thanks again!

Got Visa!

Went to Birmingham for a one day trip. They are super nice: we got our 1 year multiple entry visas in literally 5 minutes. Mind you, I am a French citizen and my husband is a Moroccan citizen. Basically, they issue visas for people of any nationality.

Re: Money and Health insurance

Danny: thanks a million. Went for a one day trip to Birmingham and got the 1 year multiple entry ED visa, in litterally 5 minutes. They said that the only condition was that we would have to leave the country every 3 months. (in and out)oh well, we're just gonna have to visit the neighboring countries

Thanks again for the pointer!
