cleaning up bird poops in an aviary

Hi,
I’d like to dedicate an indoor room and start keeping a pair of freely flighted Fischer’s lovebirds in there, but I am balked by the problem of cleaning up after them in a whole room rather than just a bird cage. I’d appreciate if anyone who has an aviary can help clear up my doubts. Thanks.
Chris

Re: cleaning up bird poops in an aviary

Hi Chris,
Cleaning up after your birds is inevitable I'm afraid and believe it or not I enjoy keeping my aviaries tidy. It gives me a chance to get in amongst the birds and see what's going on in there. If you're reluctant about putting the birds in a bigger area because you have more cleaning to do then the only advice I can give you is, two birds in a good size flight will not make the same VISIBLE mess compared to two birds in a cage. What I mean is rather than cleaning weekly you could get away with cleaning fortnightly. I personally would not do this but hey, that's just me.
Regards Gordon.

Hi Gordon,

Thanks a lot for your advice. One day, when I'm ready, my bird room would be one that resembles an indoor miniature landscaped backyard, filled with trees, shrubs, natural stones, a bird bath in the form of a water feature, a stone pavement and an arbor. For now, it's only a dream, but I encourage other people to try that too. It'll be a haven for both birds and human.
Regards,
Chris
